Ipod 0 - Sony 1
Sorry but ipods are just a pain to use the Sony is a lot better in my experiences
but I now have an I-river and that beats the two, so in a grudge match I-river wins
Mind you my partner wants me to revert back to Sony as she cant get to grips with the I-river. :rolleyes:0 -

I've got an iriver H320 and it's ace. Plays music, videos, has a built-in FM tuner and can handle pictures. Sounds GREAT too. I wouldn't consider changing it for anything.
I use iTunes for ripping CD's to mp3, though, as it can handle "Copy Protected" CD's without arguing!0 -
Well here goes...my daughter was given an Ipod for her birthday last year 5th May. Unfortunately, it was bought in the States under the HP logo, with a worldwide gaurantee....first mistake...the product unfortunately was bought before my daughter's birthday by a couple of months. However guarantee is only valid from date of purchase..So now major 'sad face ' problem has occured HP are not interested in dealing with it. So can I suggest that, buying Ipods from the States is a mistake. I have kitted my daughter out with accessories, but now my daughter is so unhappy with the problem i.e. Ipod not working that she doesn't want another one. These things should be made to last longer that a year, they are so expensive. There are known faults, one of which is on my daughter's, yet HP won't deal with it. So I say think long and hard about buying one, my daughter is now considering the Zen Micro, lord only knows what she will do with the speakers I bought her.

If you're dead set against another Ipod (and can't get it working despite going through the diagnostic testing suggested), why don't you get your daughter to bang all the accessories she has very generously been supplied with on Ebay, and get her to contribute towards her next MP3 player with that? You may even find that someone out there in Ebayland wants to buy a faulty Ipod, as practically anything faulty still has a value on Ebay.
I did this with my son when he decided (after 2 months) that the Nintendo DS wasn't quite what he'd wanted for his birthday, and really wanted a Sony PSP (£100 more!!). I sold the DS on Ebay very successfully, for £80, and he had to contribute this sum towards the PSP. I think he values the item more because he made the contribution funnily enough.
I think this is a sensible idea, considering this is a money saving forum! One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Hi guys, just to keep topic going.......my son and neighbour both got ipods last year.........both screens failed within 4/5 months.......Apple say its because of abuse by both owners...this did not happen.
Apple refuse point blank to repair ANY screen failing for any reason.......they have a limited warranty...but this doesnt over ride your statutory rights!!
Just sent them a final letter before issuing a small claims court petition,.....this happen anyone else?
See link to the sister board of this one......thoughts?

Again...another blank..................letter sent back saying they won't repair it.......also phoned them...........zilch................so small claims court it is!
Apple.....their products and their staff........................are RUBBISH!!0 -
I have had my Ipod Video 30GB since christmas and cannot fault it. One tip I have found to do with the batteries is every month or so, charge it up and then just leave it running constantly until the battery runs out. Then recharge and use as normal. Apparently this just helps 'train' the battery, and keeps it in better shape longer...0

We have three ipods in our family and I use a cheap 2GB Medion player. We all use iTunes to rip Cd's and manage our music. For example I use Itunes to create 2GB playlists and I can then drag and drop the songs from itunes to my medion player. Incidently the IGB Medion costs £25 and you can up the capacity by using SD cards.
On to quality and reliability. My daughter is now on her third Ipod all of them failed in under a year. This is not acceptable for products costing £200+.
We are fortunate enough to live near an apple store. My daughter took the last faulty ipod back there a few weeks ago and was told to take out an extended warranty at £39. I returned the unit myself a few days afterwards and was told I needed an "appointement" to see someone with a faulty unit. I asked if I would need an appointement to buy a new one and got the answer "no" but with a faulty one "its like going to the doctor - you need an appointment".
I was directed to an instore PC to book my appointemnt. It was 1630 and the next slot was 1930. I asked the guy how I booked a slot for the following day and was told it that was not possible - I'd have to come back in the morning. When I objected to this he gave me a card with a telephone number so I could book over the telephone.
I called the next day, followed the telephone guide for booking a repair and then got a message saying you can't book repair over the phone!
I had to visit the store to make another appointement to see someone on the "genius bar". I had a real battle with the guy to exchange the unit. It seemed to me their main aim was to avoid their responsibility to repair/exchange and I guess many youngsters who have problems with there kit would be intimidated by this and loose heart.
Not great customer service, is it - and I used to moan about Microsoft. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20
