iPod versus Sony ?

The Zen Touch is ok - I used to have a Zen Sleek. The Creative software is nifty, and I like the way you can do anything actually on the player (i.e. delete files, search by typing in a name etc.) which isn't the case with the iPod - certain things you have to be connected to a PC to do.
The Creative Vision: M looks sexy - it does everything the iPod video does and more. It supports most formats, so not a lot of conversion required. Just make sure it has enough space for all you want to store. I had to get rid of my Zen Sleek as I needed more than 20Gb to allow me to store more music in the future. I now have a 30Gb iPod Video and it's awesome. No problems with battery, and iTunes is a great media organiser...0 -
I have a Creative Zen touch, and my wife has an ipod nano. Sound wise there is nothing between them, although my battery lasts much longer. However if you wish to purchase online music I would recommend an ipod simply because i-tunes is a blow dried head and shoulders above all the competition, easy to use and reliable. I've tried tesco, woolworths, coke music, and msn music and they all suck big time. I-tunes is great both for content and ease of use0

I've scratched the screen of my new ipod just by running my figer gently accross the screen. I thought it would be safer to use my fingers rather than coarse cloth when I couldn't find a smooth one. I was wrong.
Very small scratches, but when you've got a video ipod you worry about scratches 10 times more than if it's just for the menu. So I wouldn't even handle my Ipod now without the case being on.
I do find it really frustrating that you can't do anything to the songs once they're on the Ipod. I usually load it up with as much new music as I can find - but I can't delete songs I don't like as I go along. I have to wait till I'm at the computer and go through the music again to delete0 -

Ah yeah, thanks for the correction. It was mp3 and ATRAC they supported natively I think with the new range, and then they released an update for WMA support."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I love my iPod Photo, I use it every day, and never had any battery problems. I also bought an adaptor so I can upload my photos from my camera straight on to it - nothing like having a 30GB memory card!
Rumours are abound at the moment that Apple might be launching a new iPod around the 1st of April (their 30th Birthday), so if you can hold off a little longer....0 -
Ipod all the way... they're the bestest!0

You might be just the person to help me here.... I bought a Nano today, and am having a hell of a time trying to transfer my files from Windows Media Player to the iPod. Actually, despite synchronising the thing, it won't recognise the tracks on itunes (altho' exploring via 'my computer' does show the tracks on the iPod)!
I use a free shareware programme called 'Limewire', which is where I get the majority of my new tracks from. I've found that if I go into the Windows Shared file I can right click the mouse, and select 'open' and choose to open it with 'itunes', that it does take it into the iTunes Library.
However, all my CD's saved in Windows Media Library are unable to be opened in iTunes, despite synchronising them, or attempting to open each media track via 'My Computer'.
If I select 'Explore Device' whilst in Windows Media Player, it shows the tracks I've synchronised, however they can't be played from that source.
With my son's cheapie MP3 that I bought off of eBay, I found that only by using the 'My Computer' avenue, where all the tracks seemed to be saved, but unable to be played; once I'd individually selected the tracks, right clicked and chose 'send to..' and selected the USB port for the MP3, did it finally recognise the track, and show it on the MP3. On the Nano, despite there appearing to be the tracks saved via 'My Computer', there seems no way of getting it to recognise the tracks no matter what option I choose.
Any ideas appreciated, as I've 2000 tracks saved on my PC, and really don't want to trawl thru' my CD collection again.
Cheers! :beer:One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Yes but you can't delete them on the go. If I've put a whole heap of new songs on the ipod - so I'm not familiar with all the names, I can't mark the ones I like and don't like as I go along. I think I'll have to make 1 star in the Ipod's rating = Song to be deleted.

No not at all! I was actually being extremely careful because I'd heard about Ipod screens. We're not talking about great big obvious scratches here - Just tiny lines when you tilt the screen and hold it up to the light. But if you can mark a screen with the actual surface of your fnger, can you image the damage you could do day to day - even being careful!0 -

What format are your current songs in? MP3, WMA?Dave. :wave:0 -
I wouldn't touch ipods for the reasons mentioned in other posts. We have two iriver (H340 & H10) and have never had any problems. The build quality is great and, the H10 in particular, is very easy to use.0
