I've been reading about HL fund of funds. Will they accept an investment into their multi-managed funds of £50/month. Both their Special Situations and Income and Growth funds seem to be nicely diverse.

Re the Aberdeen Asia Pacific funds, it appears that Hugh Young, the highly regarded fund manager who used to run these unittrusts for many years has now gone off to manage his new investment trust which is here.

Investment trusts are usually cheaper than unit trusts, but you needd to open a broker's account to access them, as they are listed like shares. Most such brokers will also enable you to invest in unit trusts, but they may be more expensive for regular contributions.

I must say I do find it much easier to forget about all this palaver, cut out all these middlemen and just buy shares directly. So much less hassle.

Hi marrioa- I've just begun to consider funds of funds like HL's Growth fund- charges seem high, but I can understand why that is. Have you determined if you can 'drip-feed' a regular investment every month? I thought that reading the charges you needed £1000 minimum lump sum...
I'm having trouble finding a fund of funds which allows this type of monthly DD investment..

Most of the retail fund of funds allow monthly transactions through the usual fund supermarkets.

Are you sure he's "gone off"? Clue - does he smell? ;)

Sorry ... I think the Aberdeen funds have been merged or rationalised and that the new fund is a variant of the old one. Hugh Young is still the key manager at Aberdeen for Asia funds

    What do you think?

    Hi spanner200

HL allow you to invest in their Fof Fs with a minimum regular investment of £50/month. If you cotact them, they will send you information, including application forms. They seem quite helpful and have been willing to answer my questions promptly.

    Hi marrioa,

Yes I realised with a bit of delving that HL will allow you to do DD although you cant do this online, Have been reading up on other brokers on the forum and it seems that HL may not necessarily provide th best deals-- have you heard of best invest? Ive heard from fairly positive reviews. Will do a bit more research though to determine which one to go for...
