help with loan.
Hello all.
Ok so my situation is I'm a single parent with a toddler,
I'm currently on income support, tax credits and what not,
after spliting up with my spouse I have found it hard to get back on my feet and find a job,
and had to rely on benifits to support myself and my child until I can sort myself out.
Basically I am in desprate need of a loan, to buy furniture and things for our new house,
The bank refused me so I tried looking at a few sites online,
Unforutunatly it seems, the site I found was yes loans,
They never mentioned they where a loan broker or any admin fee,
They where very friendly and helpful and blindsided me with promises of a loan,
But it now apears I have been scamed into handing over my bank details, saying they wanted to verify I had a uk bank account, and they have taken money out of my bank account without telling me.
After reading a lot about them online I can only assume I have been conned and I will never see any loan from them and not only have they waisted my time but they have stolen £70 from me.
But don't worry I will be contacting the FSA on monday morning.
Anyway my question is, is they anyway I am going to get a loan in my current situation?
I am really desprate and really strugling, any advice would be greatly apretiated.
Oh and also I have no debts other than a credit card with about £50 on it (£100 limit)
I have no overdraft or anything like that either.
But I don't think I have very good credit due to not having a bank account till about 6 months ago (ex husband used to insist everything was paid into and out of his account)
And when I was 17 I ran us. Bill with a catalogue company and I think that probaby damaged my credit.
Thanks everyone.

how much are you looking to borrow?
If your on benefits i believe there is a type of loan you can apply for through the benefits office, i think it's called a social fund loan or something similar, and i believe you can lend upto £300 and it's taken out of your benefits at a few pounds a week.
I'm no expert on this but have you tried contacting your local jobcentre office to ask about what loans or help are available?0 -
Can you ask on your local freecycle for furniture. Explain your situation in your post. It could do you until you're on your feet with a job etc.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

if you can manage for a few weeka and put a few pounds a week away, your local credite union may be able to help you after a qualifying period.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

I would say if your own bank declined you, chances are pretty slim elsewhere. I haven't had any dealing with credit unions so don't know if that will work.
If you are on income support however, can't you apply for a crisis loan of up to a thousand pounds?Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!

I was hoping to borrow around £2000.
£1000 to get furniture, electricals and my house sorted,
and £1000 to have behind me for financial support, and to pay off all the money I owe to friends and family.
I already received a loan from the job centre, it was the reason I began claming income support in the first place.
Basically I was homeless after the break dowm of my marrage and because I didn't have my own money I had no way of finding the money for a deposit for a house, I couldn't even get a loan because I didn't have a bank account or any credit.
so after speaking to various people the job centre offered me a loan to get me sorted.
A friend refered me to freecycle, but the one where I live is pretty poor, and it won't let me join another near by group.
Its really awful but my husband basically made sure I have nothing,
I have lost everything and he has even made sure I lost any chance of getting work where I live as well.
What is the credit union? I never heard of that.
That's for all your help.0 -
Don't even think about getting a loan.
You can not afford it.
You have a child to look after. you can't afford to get yourself into money problems.
If you do this, you are basically going to have to sign up with a legalised loan shark who are going to fleece you and you will lose the shirt off your back.
If you think that you are "desperate and struggling" now, how do you ever think you're going to cope with even more bills due to a debt you've run up with people knocking on your door and hassling you on the phone for money 24/7?
If you're struggling, get yourself over to the debt free wannabe board or the old style board and post up your soa for ideas on how you can save money and get what you need for a budget.
You don't need "new things for your house". Look after yourself and your kid. Don't fall into the debt trap. Look to freecycle or donations from friends and family.
Take my advice......seriously.....
You'll thank me one day."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Try to find out if you have a community furniture scheme near you. They accept donations of 2nd hand goods to supply families in need to have the basics to set up home. If you are looking for rented accomodation you may find something partly furnished which will also help.

I think you missunderstand me.
I don't want 'new things for my house' I need basic household items,
I litrally have nothing,
I don't have a sofa, a washing machine, a microwave or a bed,
I don't even have a kettle or a toaster in the kitchen,
As I said I have nothing!
I have no intentions of wasting loads of money on flashy new furinture and a wide screen tv,
I planned to buy second hand things locally, via gumtree and such.
And I'm not strugling due to money worries I am struggling because I have lost everything and I'm finding it hard to rebuild my life with nothing to work with.
I am in no doubt that I would be able to repay any loan repayments,
I am very good at budgiting, and I have no interest in getting myself into debt I can't get out of.
I am trying to save as much money as I can at the moment, but its not exactly making masses of diffrence, thus why I need to get a loan,
I just want to make a home so I can concentrate on looking after my child.0 -
Gee your story is so sad: Can't help directly but I feel for you and the wee one.
Keep pluggin' away and it will get better: Smile and love your child: That is what matters more than the material things..
Best wishes, take care
