Help!
OK, I applied for a free sim card from 02 (advertised on the freebies board here) and I got one yesterday. I have to put £10min per month on it and then I get something like 300 free texts (not read all the paperwork! Can you tell?!)
Anyhoo, the thing is I don't actually own a phone!! So where's the best place to get one? (considering like most ppl on here I'm bloomin skint!!) Not sure about the ones on ebay (cos if I bought one that was locked I wouldn't know what to do with it! - don't really understand locked!)
Any advice would be gratefully recieved

Check you local markets and boot sales - take the sims card with you so when you see a phone you can put it in and see if it logs a signal and at the same time make sure its working. No-one is going to stop you testing a phone they are selling...unless its faulty.Welcome, rogerramjet.

Ask your family/friends/work colleagues if they have an old spare phone that you could buy/have off them. Depending on whether the phone is unlocked or on the o2 network you should be able to use your new sim.
Regarding locked phones, the really popular and easier models to unlock are the nokias. The Nokia thread to have a browse at is at the front of this board Free Unlock Codes For Nokia phones 3 (for U.K. Networks only). Non Nokias are on the Free codes for Unlocking Phones OTHER than Nokia's thread.
Some phones cannot be remotely unlocked by codes so you might need to buy a cable or something to unlock it. If you don't want to attempt to try and unlock it yourself then try a mobile phone stall at a local market or something for them to unlock it, though it will cost something like £5+ depending on the person unlocking it or maybe the type of phone.0
