I bought my sons car tax online. As he is temporarily lving away from home, I have posted it up to his place.
It hasnt arrived yet.
Should he put a note in his window to say that the disc has been bought and that it is in the post?
Any help please

i believe if he were to get stopped by the police they can check to see whether a disc has been brought for the car. i think you have 5 days after the 1st of the mth to display a disc brought on line.Back to comping Jan 2013 :j

Is it to start 1st May? I wouldn't worry too much.
Last year I bought my tax disc online and it hadn't arrived by the time the old one ran out. I got my panicky head on and 'phoned the DVLA. They told me that there's a few days grace at the end of the previous disc so not to worry.
Putting a note in the windscreen is a good idea I think. Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -

Hi, failure to display a valid tax disc is an offence and if caught could lead to a fine.
He should keep the car off the public road until he receives the tax disc."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

OMGoodness I am more confused now!
The disc is for May start, bought it online on 20 April, arrived at address where car is registered about 27 April, then posted on to his temporary address the following day - it arrived after everyone had left that morning for work.
It hadnt arrived this morning at his place and he has already left for work. I am now beginning to panic in case he is stopped.0 -

TRUE; However not in this case, as previously mentioned you have 5 days grace if the disc has been ordered online. SO your son has until Tuesday to display the disk before any repercussions. HTHWar does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
As per the second post on this thread the police should be able to confirm that the tax has been purchased on 20/4.
If stopped I guess it depends on the copper involved, as it is obviously an offence not to display.
If it were me I would write a little precis and stick to inside of screen .
You'll have to wait until Tues now to see if it arrives,if not phone DVLA to request duplicate.0 -
I will keep my fingers crossed that the disc shows up before the police do!0

did you print the online confirmation email,if so copy the email to him so he can print it off and display in the windscreen, better than just a hand written note,
it is not so much a worry for the police BUT if VOSA see it with an ordinary note they will take it awayI

It's fine until 5 working days has passed, then it "must" be removed from the road.
I say "must" as my tax disc, which started 1st April, is sat in our magazine rack waiting photocopying before it's displayed.0 -
The 5 working days mentioned above is correct. Don't worry too much about it -you can give the DVLA a call on Tuesday. Advice from the DVLA website is detailed below:
'If the tax disc has not arrived after 5 working days, please telephone us between 8am to 8.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5.30pm Saturdays on 0870 850 4444. When you make the call, please have the Reference Number available and choose option 4 then option 1.'
(Sorry I am unable to post the link but this is on the website under common questions)0
