Buy your stamps in bulk, for your recored, weigh the item use the RM postal Calulator on the web site to find the price and stick the stamps on yourself.
Thats what i do, and don't have any problems with my local PO
all they have to do is stamp the signed for slip, and your done...
works fine for me and the PO even gave me a Xmas gift !0 -
My OH went to the post office today with 8 small parcels and a largish one (it had been a good ebay weekend).
The guy in the post office was really rude and basically said "Why don't you go to the main post office?"
I thought these places were 'POST offices'. If they don't like dealing with post, they're in the wrong business!0 -

My wife uses Smartstamp which personally annoys me in that we pay them £5 a month so save them time....?
Then if you want to send something that needs stamping you still need to queue!
I'll suggest she thinks about benji's idea of dropping it off and paying later; I'd rather leave a deposit than pay Smartstamp.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
As other posters have said, I have as much as possible done before I get to the post office and this does minimise any problems (most of the time).
The main problem seems to be that they have forgotten that they are the POST office - not the home telephone company / VISA / gift vouchers / cash machine etc etc office :-)0 -
Luckily my post office is quite small and usually only gets disrupted by a couple of people who just want 1 stamp or something, although the one in the supermarket in the town is closing soon so my guess is it will become much busier
(It was closed this weekend for essential internal work...hmm).
I would just love to use SmartStamp but I'm certainly not paying £5 per month for the service!0 -

At the risk of going off-topic...
You use the word "entrenched". Very militaristic, and for good reason, the workers are fighting a battle against "managers" who see the workforce as a COST-a necessary evil, but one that, nonetheless, could be more "productive". BLEED 'EM 'TIL THEY'RE DRY,EH?
I hope you realise, that without the unions, this nation would be nothing more than a bloody sweatshop. I fully respect the unions, as without them, all hard working folks, including posties, would be royally shafted.
Not all change is good, and you would do well to remember that. The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.

And Tesco only sell food!!!!
sorry off topic, but worth mentioning as I doubt there would be enough income for mail only postoffices!0 -
I can remember when you could only buy your stamps at the Post Office. There were no books of stamps at your local shop garage, supermarket etc The whole role of the Po's have changed.
Times have changed. Rules have changed.
I am not saying for one minute that we should go back to that, but trying to suggest why they have to widen thier horizons !
As I say, long gone off topic0 -
Yes times have changed,
Pensioners can now have their pension paid directly into their bank account which they can take out at leisure from the many cash machines available instead of tutting and moaning in Post Offices.0
