How much does a Post Office earn on parcels??

Made the mistake of going into the Post Office (local attached to pharmacy) at lunch time. Only one person on duty and I had 8 Specials @ £5.35 and 13 recordeds at about £2.06. Total bill waqs over £72.

Anyway there was much huffing and puffing and an ever growing queue. I had to skuttle out with lots of glares. Anyway in anyweek I probably spend over £200 in the PO, but get the impression I am a real nuisance.

Does anyone out there know how much the sub-PO makes from Royal Mail they are claiming they make nothing??

I have asked for Special Delivery Bags over a month ago (which I use solely for recorded delivery!!) and they are still waiting for them!!

I really have no option the next PO is about a 10-12 mile round trip.

I would certainly complain if the customer service was poor - you have as much a right as anyone else to be there.
I don't think they make a great deal, but i believe they get paid a rate for staffing/rates etc.
The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
    It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.
You ask for ADVICE not ADVISE.
  • I made a point of telling the staff at the PO, in a friendly chatty way, that I spend £600 per month with them and they've looked after me better ever since.

There are a few ebayers/ business users that use my PO and there are some days that they can't move around in their little cubby hole - literally - because there are so many parcels so I do have a some sympathy for them AND I think they get a bit of earche from the rest of the queue about those of us that take 15 minutes to get processed.

im not sure but if you have that many special delivery parcels that you send i think they can be collected from your home if you pay online?

i use https://www.parcelsend.co.uk for bigger items and they pick the item up from my home and deliver next day.

My bigger ones go by www.senditquick.com (Parcelforce)

Might look online and see what they offer but the quantity increase will probably be shortlived.

Hintza, Just a wee thought on speeding the process up ....if thats possible perhaps you have it all down to a fine art!

The recordeds... have you got the labels written out, paper clipped to each with return addy bit stuck to them? If they are they same weight its quicker to say 6 1st class recordeds at this wieght and let them print off those labels. same goes with the SD's quicker and easier if in same wieght band, and labels ready filled with address of sender and receiver.
    just a thought.

I totally agree with you. I used to spend a lot of money at my local post office near to wear I work on sending numerous parcels and purchasing postal orders but now I really hate going there. You could tell by the expression on their face as I walked in that they didn't want to deal with me. I felt like I was not welcome there. I know the staff must get a lot of people moaning because the person in front took so long but if a post office only has one or two counters then that's not my problem. I know it's annoying for people to wait in a queue while I post however many parcels I have but I wait my turn, I'm just as entitled as anyone else to post there.

I used to feel really bad because the people behind me were moaning and asking how long I would be e.t.c but now I just explain this is my lunch hour and the only time I can go to the post office so they can either queue or come back late IMO.

In my local (small) post office I sometimes get stuck behind an (obvious) Ebayer at lunchtimes.

I try to avoid the place at lunchtimes when I have a lot of stuff to send out.

What gets me is she obviously doesn't own any scales so not only does she post stuff she ties the scales up weighing all the stuff she's going to list next!

I'm probably guilty of mumbling a bit, but hey there is only one counter.

A friend of ours who sells on Ebay a lot, got a job at local PO because she went there so often they got to know here.

You shouldn't be concerned what the blighters think, your money is as good as anyone elses. :)
