Good morning all & thank you so much for all your good wishes :A
Dad has been moved to the coronary care unit as he had pain & a funny heartbeat yesterday when the doctor was examining him. A blessing in disguise really even though it was scary that is was happening while he was laid on the bed. He is on 24hr monitoring and bed rest until Tuesday when he's been taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for angiogram, angioplasty or heart by-pass surgery as appropriate. The doctors think that the stroke earlier in the year has maybe damaged some part of his heart muscle or arteries but will have a better idea on Tuesday.
I'm spending a lot of time with my Mum to support her and make sure that she eats properly and rests when she needs to. We're having lunch together and snacky teas. Yesterday I was stressed waiting for visiting time so I made a batch of Twinks hobnobs & 2 weetabix cakesand felt much better afterwards
(((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))) to everyone who needs one today.

Penelope Penguin Hope the cycling is fun - we used to live in Tickhill in Doncaster and it was very flat so cycling was easy

Morning everybody:hello:
I'm very envious of Haribo and her child free evening. Enjoy your meal and drinks. It's ages since me and OH went to the pub together.
Nothing much is happening chez Thrift today. OH is waiting to listen to the rugby match on the radio (Worcester v Bourgoin)-we don't go to the away matches particularly when they are in France lol.
The boys are off to the cinema this afternoon (the new Xmen film). DD is building a den on the front lawn with the neighbouring girlies.
Soupe aux restes for lunch (leftovers soup). I've concocted a sort of chowder using the milk I cooked kippers in and the water I cooked smoked haddock in which had been stashed in the freezer. I've added leeks, onion, leftover carrot sticks, a few spuds and a tub of chicken and ebly pilaff that was also in the freezer. It looks and smells great.
I have some salmon fillets for dinner. I'm going to make a coconut curry sauce to serve over them. We have pudding at the weekend so I think I might make a quick fruit cobbler using some frozen berries.0 -

I'm envious too - we have to bribe our elder ones to take the younger one out so we can get an evening together :rotfl:
Love the sound of your meals today Thriftlady Can I come and live at your house?0 -
Afternoon peeps,
just catching up whilst having a very late breakfast, hm bread with hm soft cheese with garlic & chives from the greenhouse YUM! lots of black pepper grated on top.
The supermarket was nowhere near as bad as i expected but as geting really busy by the time we were on the way out, i think Dad was pleased to get out of there.
Change of plan as the weather is so nice - the cleaning can wait and i`m part way through cutting the grass in the garden. I`m sinking stepping stones in as i go along so it`s a long job but i shall be glad when it`s finished as it will make future lawn mower outings so much easier.:D
The washing is on the line in the glorious sunshine and the curry is in the slow cooker for later so i shall only need to cook the rice and make onion salad to go with the poppadoms. May make some muffins later once the garden is finished and i have a part made apple and blackberry crumble to finish, the blackberries are the big juicy ones that i picked in the fields last summer and popped in the freezer. Both houndies are snoring away so i shall sneak back outside into the sun.
Have a lovely afternoon everyone.

I have taken my first oestrogen pill - says on the pack that they are hrt:eek: I'm only 42, the doc didn't say I was menopausal just lacking this hormone. The possible side effects sound horrific but she says I will feel better in about a week.

Afternoon all,
OH reckons that we should return the pillows bought yesterday....we both slept until 10.30 this morning!
Cloudy here but warm to-day, took in some washing, more to go out in a while, dinner is gammon steaks for OH and me, not sure what DD4 and DGS2 will have, not gammon steaks! Upping my intake of veg and fruit at present and enjoying the change.
Csarina, hopefully your family are getting some enjoyment from their holiday, their safety is paramount of course
2 Dgss here having a ball, playing football and taking the kittens 'hunting' out the fields....as grass is taller than kittens at present, not sure how much prey will be caught!
Must have dinner before 5.30 as Munster are playing Leinster, which is a must-watch match.
Hugs to all who are in need or want, welcome to newbies, congratulations to all who are celebrating...thank you all for being my friends

Afternoon All
Not the most productive of days to be completely honest. Spent most of the afternoon comping - someday I'll win something good!
Mum's finished of some coffee cake thing and I've put tonight's dinner into marinade. We're having Carabbean Chicken. Not tried this recipe before, so will see how it goes.
Going to order some more beads today so I can make some bracelets.
Also ordered my paypal money from the payments I've received this week for voiceover work. That's needed to pay the bills - or at least go towards them.
Ooh, thought I'd share this idea. The benecol yogurt drink pots - the ones with a replacable cap - don't throw them away. They're great for keeping freshly squeezed juice in if you're not going to use it all there and then.
Hope everyone's okComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -

I've just got out of the bath:D I've been having a soak and reading my newest book. It is this one, it's a slim book about being an econovore, that is 'a person whose good nutrition cost him little time, money and effort. It will appeal to fans of the Tightwad GazetteI got mine from an Amazon seller.
I have been making whoopie pies for pudding tonight. The recipe I used is from the Tightwad Gazette but it is very similar to the one in the link. They are a kind of filled cookie, very sweet and containing almost no nutrition at all:rotfl:I ended up with about 20-25, so I've wrapped the extras individually in cling film and put them in the freezer for the lunch boxes next week.
I'd better get on with dinner -I'm thinking about ditching the curry sauce idea and just having baked salmon, big salad, and new potatoes. I think I'll make a curry mayonnaise (mayo, yogurt, curry powder) to serve alongside.
My boys have just returned home from the cinema and are insisting on telling me the plot of X Men Origins :rolleyes:0 -
