How can I turn on my mobile without using the power button?

My power button on my Sony Ericsson P1i has given up. If I depress it it does nothing, have tried holding for 10 secs as recommended on the sony ericsson website but no luck.

Earlier today my phone froze, wouldn't turn off, so I removed the battery, now I can't turn it back on.

Anyone got any suggestions on how I can turn it on? I thought I had put all my contacts on my sim card but on putting it into an old phone it's become apparent that that's not the case. Even if it belongs on the scrapheap I'd like to get the contacts off there.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!!

is there a memory card? i would double check you had never backed them up onto that,
do you know anyone at all with the same phone even if it is sat in a draw (try their battery) was there any battery when it crashed? if it's not a battery issue it's probably a software issue which means most ways of getting it working again would involve reinstalling the software and loosing everything anyway

It's battery is nearly full. The lights come on to show it's charging but it turns itself off if I unplug the charger and it won't let me do anything whilst it's charging :(

There is a memory card which I know has some pics on it so I will try and get a memory card reader and check.

It's OK I called the mobile insurance people and they are sending a claim form :( Hopefully they will just replace as I love this model of phone.

Just miffed I was too stupid to back up/put my contacts on the Sim.

i'd think it's unlikely they will send out the same phone because it is fairly old now, it's more likely they will send out an "equivalent" handset, depends on the company and their policy,
why not update it with something like the x1 (lovely phone!)

on my k750/k800/k810 if i inserted the data cable (while plugged into my comp) at a a certain angle, it would turn the phone on.

alternatively, you could try holding the power button down as sometimes that works on my phones. however as the P1i is a symbian based handset i'm not sure if it will work

What if you leave the battery out, plug it in the charger and try turning on??

There is a reset button underneath which (although may be able to get your phone working again) will delete the entire phones contents... so not much use here :)

Read some reviews, not many rate it that highly. You'd be better off with something else. A HTC or (I hate to say it) iphone.

I'm a HTC fan myself though!

Yeah especially as you can get the iPhone for free now, £35 a month granted but if I get a new handset off the insurance then I can sell that on eBay to fund it.

Taken battery out, no joy with charger there either. Not sure where the data cable is (I just bluetooth everything) so can't try that. Arg! Am scared of reset but would rather phone worked, even if it's a blank canvas. Will give that a go!
