my contract is now finished since end of february with vodafone which i have not been happy with. as i am partly in france now and dont get so many calls at the moment what are the options to keep my phone number and have a pay as you go along. not bothered about company. it is more about keeping the number for anyone who still knows me on that number and to have when i am in the uk. would appreciate any help as this contract is costing me over £30 at the moment and i could save on this. thanks in advance.

Could you not simply request your PAC code from Vodafone and use it to transfer your number to a PAYG sim card?

If you call Vodafone and request your PAC code they should give you it for free. The PAC code is basically letters or numbers that you then pass on to the network that you wish to transfer the number to. So, you need to request the PAC code from Vodafone, buy a pay as you go sim card and then call up the PAYG customer services and tell them you want to transfer your old number to them using the PAC code.
