Make sure you send it recorded delivery as you may be surprised how it gets 'lost' if you don't, especially as you are so close to the 6 year cut off time.0

This is only true in terms of the bank's legal obligations. In practice, it is not impossible that even this old cheque itself could be presented and the account credited. There are so many cheques presented today, that the words and figures, date, and signature are not properly checked as they used to be in the "good old days". Although they may say otherwise, for smaller amounts in particular, the bank will debit the account and rely on the customer to kick up a fuss if they see something odd on their bank statement.0 -
Banks often ignore the date on cheques. Many post-dated cheques get presented which gets some people in hot water.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
I'll keep you posted as to the outcome no worries
I am REALLY hoping that they'll pay it as that would be 1/16 of the remainder of my loan
or 3+ payments off my loan saving interest etc

Well they got my letter today and called me t say that it really was my responcibility to have cashed that cheque and the wouldn't pay it... so at great lengths (wasn't exactly speaking to the most intelligent of creatures) I explained that yes the cheque only remains valid for 6 months but technically a DEBT remains valid for 6 years and it is less than 6 years since the "debt" was incurred. After some arguing back and forth and trying to get her to realise that no their commitment didn't end after 6 months then she will speak to the HR director to see if there is anythign they can do to "help"... if they decide not then I will contact CAB and see if I can take the company to a small claims court
Sheeesh! It;s £517 and we're talking one fo the worlds wealthiest companies here! Their business is insurance of things and underwriing (particualarly known for their maritime section) and I know that have policies being being signed worth millions per policy (let alone all the other sections ofthe business!) so you'd have thought tha they would cough up the £517 they owe me...
Will keep you posted
