Electric Boiler

While watching homes under the hammer today, one of the people on it had bought a cottage just outside Harrogate.
This cottage is not connected to the gas supply so they have bought an electric boiler.
I have not heard of one of these and wondered if any of you excellent people on here have any information on them.
For example, can you get one that can cope with a 4 bedroom house? How do they compare to gas boilers money and efficiency wise?
Thanks in advanced.
Angela.

Heatrae Sadia and Trianco make electric boilers from 2kw to 12kw but mainly for providing domestic hot water. Cost of electric boiler for heating would be prohibitive, about x5 cost of gas during the day and x2 for economy 7. For a house you'd need three 12kw boilers @ about £650 each and very deep pockets for the electricity bill.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0

i have to agree with caveat-emptor, we have a site in northamptonshire where these 'things' are installed, to be honest they are not suited to large houses, small appartments/flats etc maybe...
i do the maintenance on new-build properties and i have been back so many times i think i should move there and save my firm some diesel money
most people don't set the economy 7 up properly, and as these also do the heating, most people spend most of there time complaining that they dont heat up quick enough and can take upto 20-30mins to put out any decent heat. Don't forget the cost either, some of the customers have complained that there leccy bills have shot up by £200 - £300 per year which if you take off there annual gas bills from prevoius properties some said they were spending out a lot more money...
if you live some where without gas, oil or solid fuels or even solar/wind solutions could turn out to be better solutions to help keep costs down!!0
