Hi, thanks for that I think I should have made myself clearer.
I could see that page and tried all of it but none of it worked. Windows defender is not showing as an installed program now but when I click on the link to re-install it it won't let me validate that I have a genuine copy of windows.

Hey just so you know matphil I've had this problem too . Unfortunately even taking my laptop for repay failed to get it fixed. Its not the best way to solve it but I used the start up manager to prevent Windows Defender loading up on boot up (preventing the message from loading) and then I restarted computer and installed a new independant firewall.

Its the only fix I have been able to use for that problem and fortunately *touch wood* its worked :)

    Hope that helps mate :)
