Is it just me, or is the selection of phones really poor with O2 online? My upgrade is due in 2 weeks and i've been looking at the poor selection on the website.
They seem to be really slow at bringing out some of the more recent handsets that other networks have available. I don't know if its because they want to protect their iPhone/blackberry sales by not having 'competing' handsets like the LG Arena
Even 3 seem to have better phones than O2 do.. and that's saying something
Oh what do i replace my K850i with! I want GPS, touch screen, good video recording and something that looks flash (yes, i want the LG Arena..). Sadly the Pixon or Renoir look like the only options at the moment

Well the upgrade options are limited to a selection which they pick at some point and hope people will jump to.
I just switched to t-mobile from o2 purely coz the deal I would get with t-mobile was cheap (cheaper than any upgrade offer o2 would have made). I could get the phone on o2 for 18 months but couldnt migrate number from contract to contract (so I have been informed).
Anyway the Arena is available and others from online retailers with O2.0 -
See, i blame O2's business strategy for a poor selection. They have 3 distinct lines that other firms don't:
O2 own phones
Blackberry
iPhone
Now, this means they may not want to compete against their special brands. So, you're unlikely to see nokias with good email facilities as they compete against the blackberrys or LG Arenas/Android phones as they compete against the iPhone
I want to stay with o2 online since i can get a decent deal with the retentions dept. I might go have a play with a Samsung Tocco Ultra at carphone warehouse today...0 -
The nokia 5800 has everything except the 3.2mp cam, its better quality than my SE W705 cam any day! Its got auto focus, but its grainy.
You could try to get the most expensive phone for the mins/texts you want. Then just sell it and buy an LG arena for £300 on play.com
(sorry i havent checked around for prices)
Or could try to get that £150 credit and no phone that some people have been getting on the retentions dept. Thats half the phone paid for0 -
Rather then £150 credit get a refurb blackberry bold and sell on ebay for £250!0

I'm actually quite tempted by this with 3 now...http://threestore.three.co.uk/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=18UT20D090
It's nothing like the kind of phone i'd initially wanted, but it's got great email connectivity, amazing battery life and a tariff that suits me a lot since my wife is on 3 already (and you get unlimited 3 to 3 calls for free)0 -
Nearly went for the e71 myself on three (£20 a month 18 months)
I was also looking at the e63
http://threestore.three.co.uk/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=18UT15D106&id=1201
I believe the e63 perhaps isnt as fast as the e71 for internet (might be wrong)
Both deals tempted me but I chose lg cookie coz I am cheap!0 -

Look what i found on carphone's website
LG Arena for £35 x 18 months on O2 - Here
600 mins, unlimited texts.
I think that offer is expensive , unless its the going rate?0 -
Sorry.. i mean O2 direct. I want to get a phone via the retentions department.. so they can't choose from carphone warehouse stock0

ringo_24601 - You will have to wait 30 days prior to the end to get the good deal offers.
The online selection is hand picked at some point - but you can bet your bottom dollar when you finally get to 30 days and able to speak to someone you would be able to negotiate a good deal for the arena. Shouldnt be £35 (you can get iphone for that), probably around £20 a month.0 -
So.. my contract hits 17 months next Friday. I'm pretty certain i want the Samsung Ultra Touch and will be happy with that phone.. but.. Will O2 online/over the phone-direct, let me have an LG Arena, even though its not on the O2-direct website?0
