Carphone Warehouse Sales
Just a quick complain really - I noticed on the carphone warehouse website that they are advertising 50% of certain phones. However, when I went to see what the sales/reductions were, many of them were ridiculous and not real i.e. they claimed they were reduced from a higher price which the phone isn't worth. In particular, I noticed the sale for the LG Viewty - down from 199.99 to 99.99. Firstly, carphone warehouse have been selling the phone at 99.99 or thereabouts for the past few months, without it on sale. Secondly, the fact that other phone sites also sell the Viewty for around 100 quid suggests it is nowhere near worth 200!! Surely this is immoral and flase advertising perhaps? Maybe someone can advise me on this, because personally i don't think it is acceptable to advertise it as a sale when the price is the same as the month before, or the company simply lies about its RRP.
Many Thanks

I know play.com advertise stupid RRP prices to make their sales look good.
Also supermarkets double some of their selected products, then put them on offer as buy one get one free! :rolleyes:0 -

Why? They are allowed to do this so long as they have sold the item at a store previously at the price they claim to have reduced it from.
It's just marketing crap, which they are aware of and are able to use legally. Something that the savvy consumer will see through. No successful company knowingly sells at a loss intentionally without some benefit. The company are quite aware of the market value of the product, and as the OP has found it is the going rate. If head line grabbing statement such as 50% off raises awareness of their operation, and makes the consumer buy without researching the product, that's business.
If you can get it cheaper than at CPW, move on.My farts hospitalize small children0
