Barclay accounts worth the cost?

Barclay charges about £17 per month and has some services attached, car break down
travel insurance and some other things I am not sure of. Has any one looked into this?
I would love to know if it all is worth the money and the quality of the services they
provide.
thanks in anticipation,
seb

I have an additions plus and think its worth it. OH now has it to.

I have made use of the will writing service, mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover.

Originally when I took it out a few years ago its only cost £11 and is slowly creaping up in price.

Also they dropped the pet insurance which I would have used also.

Breakdown cover direct from AA is close to the £11 x 12 monthly payments.

    Good value IMHO.

It depends if you use enough of the benefits. Work out how much you are paying for those things now, and how much you would pay for this account for a year.

Also, remember that most, if not all the big banks have this sort of account - so look at HBOS/HSBC/Natwest etc as they may charge you less per month, £17 sounds like a lot.

For some people they are worthwhile, for others they are a waste of money.

    Many thanks Mluton and rn10,
That reminds me I need to register my mobile, I had a phone damaged but as it was not registered, cost were not reimbursed, actually I did not put in a claim.
There are many other things I am not sure about, such as emergency call out for plumbing etc. I have only used the car break down services twice in 10 years. Sod's law says if I did not have the cover, I would have needed it all the time.

It is especially important to ensure that the insurance that these accounts offer is sufficient for your needs. For Example, what are the excesses, do they cover your activities and so on.

The best thing to do is to work out:
1 - Do you need the benefits? It may seem good, but if you don't drive for example you won't need car breakdown.
2 - Do the benefits give the the cover you want etc if you are abandoning current insurance policies and other services will these new polices cover you sufficiently
3 - Could you get the same benefits separately for less. This is often the case.

I have friends who have these accounts, often paying up to £25, who also have separate insurance policies and other services
Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved

Thanks Johncolescarr, Well I drive and am an owner occupier, I travel once a year.
Purpose of my question was to find out if there were any shortfalls. I am sure that am not the only one to have Addition plus account and someone has possibly discovered some unpleasant facts, if any.
