We moved house last week and transferred our O2 BB to new place couldnt get same package at new place only access - fair enough.. we wanted to stay with O2 though so not a problem..
Got all the texts and emails yesterday to say congrats etc your BB is now activated
Got home last night and plugged router in etc and
nothing, nada, zip..
the WLAN, enternet and power lights all go green but the internet light stays red (on both the O2 supplied router and our netgear one)
unplugged it started again nothing
on the O2 BB software connection thingy we can see the up/download speeds available (not too bad) and its connected but there is no IP address present so wont connect properly
We phoned O2 and their computers were down, cant do anything much whilst at work as I suspect they will want me to fiddle with router but are we missing anything obvious before I ring again tonight?

actually we are, just outside of chelmsford... would explain stuff..
O2 just said to hard reboot the router and reinstall the software
whic I did, didnt work straight but it does now
we are having to use the o2 router rather than our own which is annoying, its the same problem on our router - no IP address, which wont update even rebooting the router...0 -
'o2 Access' is a BT wholesale IPstream broadband service.
Fwiw, when you tried to use your own non-o2 router, did you remember to log into the router to change all the ADSL settings for IPstream use, and enter your unique o2 supplied username and password ?

Type 'http://o2wirelessbox.lan' into Internet Explorer's address bar and press 'Enter'. That should take you to your modem config screen. Wouldnt specifically be able to help you past that, as you need to know your own details.0 -
Sorry about the non-functioning link, try navigating to the page as follows:
Go to www.o2.co.uk
Click on 'Support'
Click on 'Broadband Help'
On left hand side under 'Broadband Help', click on 'Home Broadband'.
Click on 'Setting up your Connection'
Click on 'Setting Up your own router'
Finally click on 'How to set up o2 Home broadband on your own router'
Towards the bottom of the page, you will see settings required for o2 Home Access
Generally speaking when using 3rd party routers on a BT IPstream connection, you just need to ensure these settings are correct on the router:
Username & password (supplied by o2 as quoted in above o2 webpage)
VPI = 0
VCI = 38
Connection type = PPPOA
ATM encapsulation = VC-MUX
MTU = 1492 (from o2 webpage)0 -
Sounds as if you're just a victim of the o2 box remembering that at your old home you WERE on an o2 LLU circuit (ie ADSL2+ PPPoE without any id/password) but NOW are unfortunately only on a regular BTw ADSL/max circuit (ie as Bill888 mentioned above).
The usual way to fix it would be do a factory reset on your o2 box as the first time the o2 box startsup it tries to configure itself to the LLU or BTw circuit it finds.
So if I was in your shoes I would:
1) Try a hardware reset on the o2 box. Assuming it a white o2 Box II you leave it powered ON and using a paperclip push the RESET BUTTON (between power and the Ethernet sockets) until the Power LED goes RED - takes around 7 seconds they say. Then release the button and the box will reset. Then hopefully as it starts up it will autoprovision itself for the o2 Access BTw circuit.
Same for a blue o2 Box but the reset button is at the end furthest from the antenna. HOWEVER I wouldn't be 100% sure that the o2 box (not box II) had the necessary logic built in as it predated the o2 Access service.
What you are aiming for first is the DSL light to go green = an ADSL circuit set, and then the Internet too.
2) Phone o2 on their 0800 number to get some more help. You will need to phone them anyway if you want to use your own Netgear (with the 0,38 settings) as you need your o2 Access ID/password (the 'Radius' ones that authenticate your ADSL, and NOTHING to do with your www.o2.co.uk website id/password).

Ah - sorry missed that key bit in my quick scan.
Your Netgear should work with "industry standard" settings as contributed above - o2 Access is a very vanilla BTw ADSL/max circuit.
You WILL need an ID/password which o2 Helpline will readily give you - be clear what you are asking for is your modem id/password for o2 Access (aka "Radius" log-in) and NOTHING to do with your www.o2.co.uk website id/password. As long as you are clear with your question they will readily answer it - when their support line computers are alive!
