i bought some ck tissues other day , to start covering my mdf letter's. does anyone know if i need to prime the bare mdf first ?
i told hubby what i was doing, he looked at me very odd, lol. but once i showed him the tissues and my plans he said sounds good, so hope i can pull it off and make it look nice.0 -
I've been reading up on this the last few days and found some good tutorials, there are two videos here, part one and part two. The lady uses some serviettes to cover an Ikea box

From what I see you sand and paint the mdf, then put your tissues on. You seem to glue as you go, rather than painting the whole item with glue iykwim. Use a soft brush and paint over the tissues, bit by bit.
I'm thinking of using these ikea serviettes to line the drawer of my bureau in this way, unless I find anything better.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Hi mely,
As it was good weather this morning i stood outside and did it,instead of painting it with brush strokes i just dabbed it on as it was decorative, didn't take long to do at all and because it wasn't thick paint it must have been about 15 mins in between coats. The effect is alot better now, wish i could do photos but 1) i'm a newbie and 2) i'm a bit of a technophobe and don't know how too:(
I love this thread and it is very addictive:)
Hi mrsmuggy...thanks for getting back to me. I wish you could post pics so that we could see all your handy work! But im the same, im a technophobe too and wouldnt have a clue how to post pics... lol. This thread is fantastic isnt it...its top of my list for favourite threads, and i look forward to looking through it each day0 -
Use PVA glue which is the white stuff that you used to use in primary school that peels off your hands when dry!
You can get it in craft shops or DIY stores. Use it reasonably sparingly but dab on enough to soak through the napkin. Best to use single layer of napkin (pull the layers apart) and rip off smallish pieces and layer them over each other on any thin parts or edges of the placque or whatever.
Hi Annie..thanks so much for the above advice! I really liked the Tesco napkins but didnt buy them as i didnt think they would work with glueing them down. But now i know how to do it, im going to toddle off to Tesco and buy some later!0 -
