New to new deal

no it doesn't.
people want to turn it down because it's no help at all (unless you're one of the private providers the service has been farmed out to, in which case it's £££ at the expense of people on the course).
People who think it's a good thing need to do some research into what it's really like.
Are you ranting again wishface?
Gone ... or have I?0 -
Just spoken to my son on the phone. He said in his opinion New Deal is good because ...
Through New Deal he was sent to an organisation called Steps to Work and through this organisation he gained an Emergency First Aid Certificate, some Voluntary Work, a Work Placement and eventually employment which he still has two years later.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
so its better sitting on your backside doing nothing then?
I am sure the JC's workload has increased tenfold due the number of redundancies and people losing their jobs so I'd be dam grateful for any courses/help they are offer.0 -
i agree the New Deal is terrible and a way of massaging the figures. Everyone is lumped together in a room some may have been in prison you wont know and nobody will really want to be there. You have to go because if you dont then you wont get paid so they have you there. They are almost like punishment centres for the unemployed.
On the plus side the staff arent really interested and you may be able to knock off early. You get a little extra for going.:footie:0 -
What do you see as an altenative then wishface? What do you think should happen instead of New Deal?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I find the assumption and the continued prejudice that people out of work are otherwise 'sitting on their backside' (like the Welfare guy caricature/story that graced the redtops yesterday) doing nothing highly offensive. You wouldn't post that black people all like gangster rap and bling, or that all Irish are stupid, so how is this tolerable?secretspender wrote: »so its better sitting on your backside doing nothing then?

its absolutely disgusting that people should have to mix with others out of their box. Everyone who is unemployed is different why should people be lumped in with people who have been in prison etc or people who want to swear etc.
The Mps should go to a New Deal place for a day bet they wouldnt like it!:footie:0 -

its not wishfaces job to come up with something. Its the governments. They are massaging the figures thats all. It makes it look like they are doing something.
If they want to do something they should put more money into giving people a leg up to start a business there is no money available. Also offer some real back to work free training instead of just Maths and English courses. a stint in a charity shop is not going to get you a job and its just slave labour.
Not sure what else you can do there will never be full employment in the country, and as soon as one finds a job another unemployed comes along anyway bit like the prison service, one in one out so to speak thats the way the cookie crumbles its life.:footie:0
