BTW, I am sure I remember someone talking ages ago about problems because of coldsores in pregnancy or did I dream that :o. I think I am getting one :(

    Hiya MTW

Glad ya had a nice day!

Coldsores are very dangerous if transmitted to a newborn - so if you have one when you give birth don't kiss the baby and always wash your hands.
The same virus downstairs can be dangerous as well - I will probably need swabs nearer the time to make sure virus is dormant.

Maybe check with your MW but I'm sure its dangerous after they are born rather than whilst ur are pg!

... Elle - I have an underactive thyroid, and haven't seen anything to say there would be a problem with breastfeeding. This reminds me: I must find out when my next check is due - the doctor said about every 6 weeks, but my last was at 16 weeks so would be due next week and haven't heard anything. Maybe worth a phonecall to see what they want me to do

First I'd heard of it was when someone mentioned it on the Parent Thread the other day. No-one medical has ever mentioned it being a potential problem

I've heard all sorts of different opinions from medical people on how often I should have my levels tested though..
    - GP1 said every 4-6wks
    - GP2 said "whenever you feel the need"
    - midwife1 not at all bothered but included it in booking bloods after I insisted
    - midwife2 made no mention of it but included it in 28wk bloods after I mentioned it

Worst one was the registrar who went off on one with me at my 12wk scan because my booking bloods came back too low but as noone had told me I hadn't upped my dose. Had them checked again at 20wks (registrars request) and everything was fine, and I'm still waiting to get the results of my 28wk check - was told to assume "no news is good news" but on their past performance I'm not so sure! Got to have bloods again at 35wks then see consultant at 36wks to "discuss" the results.

Doesn't seem enough to me but the midwives just seem happy to go along with the registrar (supposed to see a consultant about it, but he's never there so I've seen his registrar instead).

right, I really am going now!
Found OH's tie and handwashed it (why does he not wash it after he wears it?!!) and just arranged for my hairdresser to come and do my hair.

I have been practising my make up so that should be OK! Only !!!!!! thing is, I never got around to ordering the ASOS dress I want so have to wear same as I wore to races the other day.

Oh and girls - try to keep the thread clean tonight :rotfl:

They do seem to differ on advice, don't they elle? I was told at booking in I would need to be part consultant lead due to thyroid (and weight) but only met someone from the consultants team once after 12 week scan: heard nothing at all back from them since. I think I'll have a word with the midwife again at week 24 appointment. The midwives and GP at my practice weren't too bothered: just said my levels were fine - it wasn't until I saw someone at the hospital that they told me that they raise the dose automatically by 25micrograms as soon as they see a patient.

its only a problem if you have a cold sore in the 7ish days either side of giving birth There is some info on it on the NHS website if u search for "herpes pregnancy" it'll come up ;)

Elle - get the form off ur GP and put it in ur hosp bag - IMO MWs are the kindest ones at getting blood so I'd get them do take some while I'm on the mat ward if I were you :)
