shell - what a lovely story, thank you!!! he's adorable - what a cutie and your OH looks absolutely enamored with the boy!

Glam - you are the bargain QUEEN! Did you get all that stuff off eBay or from a boot sale? I can't wait to start buying stuff if it's only going cost that much! :D

as an aside, do you ladies know when (at home) you can start reliably using a doppler? I really want to get one, but don't wanna freak myself out by not being able to find the HB.
top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

would like to win a holiday, please!!

It rather depends on you and your baby, but I think I got mine at 15 weeks IIRC, possibly a week or two earlier.

My MW said she couldn;t listen to the HB until I was 16 weeks, so I guess that before then it's not so easy.

The main thing is to be calm and patient - you have to start with it on a place then move it slowly around, pausing every so often, pushing it hard into your tummy and trying it at different angles.

I found this site http://www.sweetbeats.net/fetal-doppler-babys-heartbeat.php very helpful in telling me what on earth I was listening for as it doesn;t sound like you think it will, and I also found that even if I couldn;t find the HB I could listen to the placenta and know everything was working OK.

There will be times when you can;t find it but that is normal and nothing to worry about - they penetrate about 5cm into your tummy so if baby has its back to you then it can;t get to the heart to play the beat to you IYSWIM.

After a while you work out how to use it best for you, and it's great to use it. I use mine even now at 29 weeks cos hearing the HB is just so lovely.

I had the Angelsounds one off Amazon, in green, and I am still on my first tube of gel.
