i bought my son an xbox 360 at christmas and now it has started playing up its not the dreaded red lights,it wont play some games but will play others and its not always the same games it plays.i phoned currys up where i got it from and they said it will have to go to germany to be repaired and it would take up to 4 weeks to fix.i thought that when you get a 12 month guarantee if it goes faulty they should swap it for a new 1 in the shop there and then.has anyone got any ideas because im not looking forward to telling my 8 year old he cant play on it for 4 weeks.

you got the xbox sorted yet, ive sent 2 off to microsoft for repairs and they have come back in under 10 days which is pretty good, all you need to do is call ms and log the xbox repair and they will send you a label either by post or email. You then need to package the console up using a box from a supermarket and you stick the label to the box. You do not include any accessories eg hard drive, controller as yu may not get them back, also remove any discs from the disc tray. You then need to call ups to arrange them to pick your xbox up, and they collect it and send it to ms, then wait about 10 days and your xbox should be back at home for your son to play on it.

    Oh Yes it does!

actually it doesnt, my brother did it and it worked until it happened again unluckily, he then decided to get it repaired under the warranty and guess what... they did

theres no way they can know as the problem is caused by overheating in the first place.

My friend did it too and unfortunately it didnt work for him and he mentions it to the person on the phone and still got it repaired under warranty.

so either your wrong or there are alot of exceptions to the rule, either way they dont know what you dont tell them.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

This is just a temporary fix though. It's usually used for people that want to trade the consoles in that are outside their warranties at GAME, Gamestation, etc. Plus, IIRC this "fix" only works with the RRoD.

To the OP, if you haven't contacted Microsoft yet, they will also send you a box for the console as well if you request. They won't offer, you have to ask. Say something like "I shouldn't have to pay for the box" or whatever. They're only too happy to send one out.

I sent my Elite off on the 15th of December and had it back on the 22nd.

Also to the OP, did you send off the warranty for the console? If not, Microsoft tend to look at the manufacture date of the console to see if you are still within the one year (as this is not a RRoD problem.) So it may be best to send a copy of the receipt as well to confirm that the console was purchased over Christmas.

What ever you do take a note of the serial number.

    My son Xbox360 had a fault on it, we googled to search for a site that would fix it in our area found and this one;

    http://www.allconsolerepairs.co.uk/

He collected his Xbox 360 only to find out when he got home it was not the one he had given in.
His was only just over 12mths old so just out of warranty & immaculate.
He is fussy & everythng has to be in it's place & clean.( I know unusual for a man)
When he went to put his game in he saw immediately that it was not his, the disc drawer was dirty/dusty to him.

    Plus it did not work?

He then checked the serial number & guess what it was not the same?

He rang http://www.allconsolerepairs.co.uk/ straight away to be told his young son must of mixed them up.

How many people keep the serial numbers??

Woudnt touch that consolerepair site with a bargepole, Very poorly made.
  • Wish it was as easy as sending mine off to microsoft. Bought mine over 3yrs ago for £300, it's already been repaired 3 times and when i phoned up today they told me they wanted about £90 to repair it because i'm out of warranty. I wouldn't mind it if I'd of had it 3yrs without fault but it's the fact that they keep repairing it. Sorry for hijaking this thread to rant
