faulty xbox 360

i bought my son an xbox 360 at christmas and now it has started playing up its not the dreaded red lights,it wont play some games but will play others and its not always the same games it plays.i phoned currys up where i got it from and they said it will have to go to germany to be repaired and it would take up to 4 weeks to fix.i thought that when you get a 12 month guarantee if it goes faulty they should swap it for a new 1 in the shop there and then.has anyone got any ideas because im not looking forward to telling my 8 year old he cant play on it for 4 weeks.

When my Xbox was sent to Germany (Xbox normally pay for the courier costs) it took 8 days

mine was fixed in about 7 or 8 days. I called microsoft (the number is in the paperwork you got in the box), gave them the serial number and they arranged a courier to collect it from my home. No problems at all since then. Currys will send it for you if you don't want to make the call I am sure, but doing it yourself may be quicker.

    Hi, hoping I can help!

I work at Argos and if customers return faulty Microsoft XBOX360s outside of the initial 30 days we recommend that you contact Microsoft directly about arranging a repair - on the XBOX360 website there is a link about registering your console for support/repair.

Before anyone brings up that under the Sale of Goods Act that it is the responsibility of the retailer, it is, but for some reason Microsoft (and Sony) won't deal with retailers (well at least Argos anyway) directly, and if we need to send an item for repair we have to do it the exact same way as you would have to return it, but the advantage with you arranging it yourself is that they will pick up/return the console to your address, whereas if the retailer sent it off you would have to come back to collect it etc.

After 4 months use a repair doesn't sound unreasonable - just book it yourself through the XBOX website. I've told many customers in store about this and they've been very happy about it.
If you really want Currys to sort it out then I'm sure they will do it for you but they will send it off for repair and you would have the added inconvenience of taking it to the store & later picking it up again.

    HTH :D

I have heard from most people that the repairs only take up to two weeks, but it is defo better to sort it yourself as it may take a little longer if someone else does it all xx

Must admit when my son's Xbox went faulty - with a week to go on the guarantee! - Argos was brillant and they swopped it for a new one with no fuss at all.

Alot of people fix the xbox's themselves.

worth a try and it doesnt void the warrenty(i still wouldnt tell them about it though)

Try getting a towel or two, dampening them and ringing out all excess water, then cover the xbox on all sides with the towel(tightly) and turn it on, leave it for 20 mins then let it cool for another 30 mins and most people including my brother find that this works sometimes. PS make sure you remove the hard drive before trying anything!!!!

Dont ask me how but it does, youtube it and see for yourself...

whats the worst that can happen..... sending it off to microsoft? you were already doing that so nothing to lose.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
