I had to go for one of these medicals in October despite filling in one of the IB50 forms and sending in forms and reports from my doctor saying I was unfit for work for the forseeable future!

BlueAngle i have been on incapacity benefit for a year now for the same reasons as you. i found really good advice on a support and info site called https://www.worksandbebenefit.co.uk i really hope it helps you to, i was so afriad i would lose my benefit but it was all ok. by the way i went for medical in Jan and had the offical letter last week to say i was unfit for work and would be reassesed in 18 months, so dont worry if you dont hear for a while. good luck

think you probably mean Benefits and Work
you do have to subscribe to benefit from the downloads on that site which is sad but it's difficult to any other way of funding for such a site if you've got a DLA claim I think it's value for money and if your IB claim looks dodgy then belonging to such a site may make all the difference. In many cases it's not what you say it's the way you phrase it that draws the connection between the test criteria and your health condition and particularly with mental health problems it's very easy to understate your case.

    Hi,

I went for a medical back in October 2005. You are allowed to request a copy of the report - this will come after the actual medical, I actually got mine as I was appealing against them stopping my Incapacity Benefit.

I dug it out and some of the questions I was asked are as follows - there are quite alot but they may help put your mind at rest! You will probably also be asked the questions that were in the IB50 questionaire about if you have problems sitting, standing, walking etc:

    What the medical diagnosis is
    What medication are you on
Have you had any hospital treatment in last 12 months
Any mental therapy in last 12 months
    When your condition started
    How it affects you
    Where you live
What sort of house you have
    Who you live with
    Where the toilet is
    If you do housework
How many stairs ( I was beginning to wonder what sort of questions i was on!)
    What work I did
    Why I left
    Left handed or Right Handed
Typical Day - when you get up, what you do, when you go to bed etc
If you go shopping - how often, if you push the trolley, pick up items, load items into car and put items away
How long you can stand in a queue
How long you can walk for
    If you drive
    If you use a computer
    How long for
    If you watch TV
    If you read
If you have friends ( hmm - would anyone say no i am billy no mates!)
If you have a mobile phone and what you use it for
    If you drink alcohol
    If you use drugs
If you have suffered any accidents
If you have a calm nature
If you are disruptive (would you admit to it!)

Also make sure that you get your say as to how your illness affects you! How you cant do stuff that you used to
