Memory Cost

My laptop has got quite slow of late, and I notice that most of the 1gb of RAM is pretty well used, with around 100mb remaining. When I have a number of tabs open on the internet, it takes a while for the tabs to change. Should I buy more RAM, and if so:
1. How much should I get?
2. How much would it cost?
3. Would PC World fit it free under their performance package?
The laptop is a Toshiba Equium A110-276

Here you go:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Equium%20A110%20Series
Use the details to find it cheaper. Play.com, ebay, amazon, etc.
You can go up to 4gb in your laptop, you have 2 banks to. Do you know whats in there at the mo ? 2 x 512mb or 1 x 1gb ???
Also download ccleaner and run and uncheck statup items, not required at boot.

Hi there. Sounds like you might be running Windows Vista. 1gb is just about enough but really at least 2gb is better.
Take a look at Crucials website, they have a tool on there where you can choose what pc/laptop you have and it will tell you what type of ram you can use and the maximum your machine will take. You can buy the ram there and then or pop off to another site such as EBuyer or Aria where you may get it cheaper.
Not sure about whether PC World would fit it, its not too difficult to do it yourself if you are feeling a little adventurous!
EDIT - looks like I was beaten to it, cant type quick enough!Useful is beautiful0 -

I'm not sure. How would I find out?
I also have ccleaner but I like most of my programs that run! iTunes is fairly hard on it I think, and I have about 15 tabs open in google chrome!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

Actually only running xp, but it is supposedly vista capable. It isn't really slow, but I get impatient really quickly! lol :rotfl: If I attempt to fit it myself, would I invalidate the warranty?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
No you wouldn't invalidate the warranty - PC World would fit it for free under its yearly healthcheck if it's under PC Performance.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Although PC World would fit the memory for free they would charge a fortune for the memory in the first place. The health check is just a waste of money.
Take it to your local independent computer shop. If they can't fir it while you wait they
will certainly be able to do it quickly and at a fraction of the PC World price.
Depending on the type of memory expect to pay £15-30 for the memory and about £15 to fit.0 -
I doubt you need more ram.0

I disagree 1gb on Vista on your laptop isn't enough. 2gb in total will make a nice difference.
If you unscrew the memory compartment on back of laptop and make sure you only have a single 1gb stick in there now (leaving you with x1 free slot)
purchase either

or

kingston brand is usually more compatible. Will take you up to 2gb in total and for that price its rude no to really :T0 -
It's XP, which will run quite happily with 1GB or half of that, and no swapping.
1-2GB change is hardly noticeable on Vista unless you are running ram hungry apps0 -
I've upgraded many laptops from 1gb to 2gb on XP and the difference is night and day :beer:0
