Abbey Complaint. Any idea what i can do?

Options
I joined Abbey Jan 09 and had an e-saver and an ISA with them. I initially had a problem with my ISA (2 months to transfer!) and despite complaint letters and phone calls, i never received a reply.

In mid-March i closed my e-saver, however almost 6 weeks later i have not received my cheque or any details about the closure. Abbey have confirmed the money left my account mid March and that a cheque was 'issued' but i haven't received anything. No one could tell me why, so, exasperated i visited my branch and refused to leave until someone took me seriously! They've now reissued the cheque but two weeks later am still waiting.

I have written a complaint to Abbey and am waiting a reply. However, I'm obviously annoyed as i've missed out on 6 weeks at least of interest and been inconvenienced. Does anyone know what i can do? Or what the likelyhood is that they'll compensate me considering I now have no accounts with them?
Thanks.

your complaint may well be with the postal system, not with Abbey.
  • Write again or telephone them if they have not responed in about 10 days from when you posted the letter. Probably they will just say sorry and give you all your money back. I have a slightly similar problem at the moment with another bank. I live in hope.

Write again. Give clear details of what happened, what you did to chase, what they did / didn't do. Give dates and where possible names of people you spoke to + what they said.
Make it clear what you now want ie you cash plus £X compensation for lost interest, your time, your expenses etc. Make it clear what timescale you are giving them to resolve this before going to the FSA.
    Send it to Head Office.

    Good luck!

edit - Oh, and next time you're passing, pop in and get their leaflet on their complaints handling procedure. They have to give it to you!

If you don't have any luck complaining direct, write to a Sunday broadsheet Money column and get them to chase it further, Abbey complaints have featured weekly since the year dot - a shocking company.
  • Thanks for the replies - am still waiting for the cheque!! I have the complaints leaflet but they say I have to wait 4 weeks in total before i can send another letter and then finally, if I'm still not happy, a letter to the FO people! So long winded and i'm fed up.

Don't worry, I will not be banking with Abbey ever again!
