Which AV software is it?
Before you go ahead though, why do you want to disable it?0 -
about to install new printer, and it has asked me to do this before i carry on, its windows one i think

Is there an icon in the tray that represents your Anti Virus program, if so, what does it say if you hover over it.
To be honest, it's likely that leaving your AV on whilst installing the printer will not cause any problems.0 -
e-trust comes up when i start lappy, dunno wether it actually does anything
when i o into security center it just says antivirus on

You should be able to click in the Security Centre and select to turn it off.
Before you do though, I would try the printer install leaving it on. Probable worst case is that it fails and you have to install the drivers again, but this is unlikely.0 -
They always say that you should turn off Anti virus software when installing some software. They say it simply because some search everything you do more than others, check what you are installing, scan everything and it may simply eat the resources needed to perform the install. (Although resources on installing a printer are low ) It's basically to cover themselves and not get hundreds of support calls from people saying they can't install the software.
Try the install first with your Anti virus system enabled and running as usual. If it fails then try turning it off.
Hope this helps

Hi Helen
If you right click on the icon does it give you the option to turn it off?
If not have you got CCleaner. If you have start the program..scroll down to TOOLS> STARTUP> (lists everything that starts when your computer starts)> UNCHECK the box that has your Virus software then RESTART
This will stop your virus program until you start it again as it deletes the registry key, so make sure you know how to turn it back on again

BTW I dont think there will be any problems installing your printer software with virus prog running. These are the Good 'ol Days just wait and see!0 -
Hi Helen
What others have said here might help you but - if you REALLY DO want to disable your AV - then read the link below about eTrust (you mentioned this in your post #5) ...
