Did you ever get anywhere with this?

I'm in a similar situation and have just requested a refund. The whole auto-renewal thing is a bit of a con if you ask me. Designed to get money out of us! Especially when, as I believe is the case, you can't turn it off until 3 months before it [in my case the domain] is due to expire. So if you forget, you're out of pocket. Real nice!

The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 might have teeth, here!

It provides:

Unfair Terms
5. - (1) A contractual term which has not been individually negotiated shall be regarded as unfair if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations arising under the contract, to the detriment of the consumer.

(2) A term shall always be regarded as not having been individually negotiated where it has been drafted in advance and the consumer has therefore not been able to influence the substance of the term.

It goes on to say:

(4) It shall be for any seller or supplier who claims that a term was individually negotiated to show that it was.

This is what I'll be using if i get no joy with the refund. And btw .. apparently, UK2 is part of the same group as 1&1 !! No surprise there. Just read the stories on the web about 1&1.

I thought about pursuing this further but haven't to date because the whole process is so alien to me.

By the way the auto-renew is another scam of theirs. Even if you disable it they still charge you for a renewal because their terms and conditions say they can! They make it ask difficult as possible leave.

*Hums the tune to Hotel California*

There is no way this should be legal if indeed it is. I wish I had read the awful reviews of this company before using them.
• I have had webhosting with UK2 from October this year. I received an email telling me that the Website Premium Backup renewal would be due in 21 days and not to worry as they would auto renew it.
Strange, I thought, I have never requested that service so went to my account and there was nothing about any renewal being imminent.
I tried to ring the number on the email and the number just rang and rang - no answer. So then I tried the freephone number, only to be told to try the number I had already rung.So tried again on the freephone number again using another option, to be told to ring the 090 number( 50p a minute).
With this I sent them a "ticket", an online message stating that I had never requestd this service and they were not to take any money.
I received a reply stating that "the Website Premium Service was added to customers who have a web hosting package as this allows a continuous backup of your website. We sent out emails regarding this service, it is £1.00 per month, however the first month was free of charge and if you want to cancel this service, you would just need to login to you account and disable it or send an email to our cancellation queue"
I had never been advised by email that they were giving this service to me, free or otherwise, I do not want it anyway and it was not shown on my account so couldn't have disabled it.
They have said they will not take money from my account .
Please, if you have website hosting with UK2 be aware that you could be billed an extra £12 for something you haven't requested!!!
• All webhosting providers do this, Alot cannot make money on you staying on their £1.99/month contract for a month
• Ever had a contract Auto-Renewal with UK2 that you didn’t want at a price you were not expecting?

Did your Web Hosting contract renew at full price despite the T’s and C’s saying:

"Business Web Hosting 09 renews at the offer price if the contract period is kept at 1 or 2 years”
And
“Business Web Hosting 1 and 2 year, E-commerce 1 and 2 year packages and Reseller Plus 1 year which renew at the offer price unless allowed to expire.”

Were you one of the 100’s of customers who had £1 per month u-lawfully debited from their bank account in 2009?

Enough is enough.

As an employee who was recently fired for whistle blowing on this injustice - I am taking this matter further.

If you have been affected by UK2’s unfair pricing / renewal prices please get in touch with WATCHDOG now as they will be running a story on UK2.

It is not about me seeking revenge for getting fired; it’s about seeking JUSTICE for all YOU UK2 CUSTOMERS past and present who have suffered.
