UK2 Scammers - Review

I'm taking time to post this as a warning to anyone thinking of using uk2.net in the future.
My problem started when I was checking my bank statement and noticed that UK2 had taken money my account. It turned out that they had taken it upon themselves to charge for a service contract without permission and without warning that I have absolutely no use for.
Customer services stated that I should have submitted a cancellation ticket to their system 14 days before my original contract ended! I explained that I didn't even request or authorise any renewals, their response was that I should write a letter of complain to the head office!! After being passed around to different people and waiting for responses for a month!! I eventually manged to talk to someone in-charge who refused any kind of refund. Once UK2 has your money there is no getting it back, expect awful customer service and expect no good will on their part, they are out-and-out scammers, beware!
I am still looking into ways of persueing this further, if anyone has advice?

Do you mean that you never had a contract with them, and they simply billed you without any authority whatsoever? Or that they auto-renewed your existing service when it was about to expire?
If the former, you are fully entitled to your money back.
If the latter, the Terms and Conditions on their web site make it completely clear that when you sign up for their service you accept that auto renewal will happen unless you opt out, and the method of doing so is clearly explained.
To be blunt, I don't think you have a case to pursue unless you can prove that the T&Cs when you originally signed up (a year ago?) were unclear or misleading. They obviously aren't now.0 -
Hi, I was in a contract with them that automatically renewed for a years worth of hosting that I won't be using. Thanks for your honest opinion and your right that they are likely correct from a legal standpoint.
Their renewal policy is clear and the first paragraph states that
"UK2 operate an Auto Renewal Policy on all products and services, which is designed to ensure continuity of service."
When requesting a refund I had hoped that the sentiment of the statement was true. My hosting package is shared and to switch it off would incure no charge to them. Not refunding shows a lack of business ethics and as I suspected the auto-renewal exists more to trap unwitting customers than "ensure continuity of service"0 -
Despite them having the legalese behind them, I agree with what you say. It seems to be very poor business practice not to make a gesture of goodwill and refund your money.
After all, it's well known that one unhappy customer can do much more harm to a company's reputation than the benefit that they get from many happy customers. As demonstrated by the fact that you were sufficiently motivated to post here.0 -
uk2 have done this kind of thing from the start, they sucker you in with unbelieavable cheap headline rates and then include small print binding you to an service charge/renewal charges.0

I'm in a similar situation, although I did set my renewal to manual renewal when I paid last year, so they currently don't have my money.
I've received an email today, saying that as I haven't cancelled my contract, I now owe them for another years contract and if I don't pay within 7 days then they will set the debt collectors on me.
Can this be right? Do I have to pay?0 -
Its disgraceful that any company can operate in such a manor. You should not have to pay the renewal as you clearly disabled the automatic service. I would continue trying to talk to them directly (good luck with that) and hopefully another forum member will be able to suggest something should that fail. Your review will warn customers about this rogue company.0

I am assuming that if they took the money from your bank account they did it by direct debit?? Was the amount taken a different amount from the original 1st years payment?
I ask because, correct me if I am wrong but if D/D payment is altered, amount, date of payment etc they have to inform you at least 14 days before the money is requested (hence all vairiable DD payments are billed to you first Gas, Electric, Credit Card etc) and you may be able to claim back the money via your bank under the DD guarentee???Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
