God i am thick, it wont go in! When you say double the difference, what it means is she got her money back (because DTD was what she paid in the first place) and got the item for free! I will ask her in the morning for the make etc.. Me thinks its too late for my brain to work!
Basically you get twice the overcharge.
so if the item was advertised at £5 but it goes through the till at £8 the difference or overcharge is £3 so that would be doubled to £6.
So you would have paid £8 but get £6 back (£3 x 2) making £2 for the item.
Hopefully that hasn't confused you even more:j First mini munchkin due 05/04/2013 :j0 -
Was so excited when I found a phone was £129.99 now £49.99 offer valid till 10/07/11...but the damn thing scanned at 2p less then it should :rotfl:
On the upside I managed to get 2 finest choc puddings, there was a nice shiny new SEL for 87p so asked the restocker if ge had any out back, very happy when he bought 2 back.
I have a feeling my store is quite delayed with the glitchy items as it's only this week that I've found teabags megablocks and the puds, so hoping there maybe more to come.
Got some 20p paxo but forgot to scan the only remaining BBQ strange they have sold 5 in a day if they were full price ??
I got told one of my items was "not on the system" so she was unable to sell not sure if it maybe a penny item ?
It was a girls lilac hair set 6 clips, some hairbands and an Alice band was £3 now £1.50 but now unable to sell may try it again in SS at some point.
Did however save over £20 using couponsMSE- The Glitchhikers guide to the galaxy0 -
It may be easier with different examples:
An apple has an SEL of £1 but you are charged £3. Your net result is you keep the apple and you are refunded a DTD of 2 x £2 so £4 in total meaning that you come away with an apple and £1 profit.
An orange has an SEL of £2 but you were charged £3. Your net result is you keep the orange and you are refunded a DTD of 2 x £1 so £2 in total meaning the orange only cost you £1.
A pear has an SEL of £3 and you were charged £3 but you notice after paying that there was a half price sticker on the pear. You were overcharged by £1.50 so a DTD of 2 x £1.50 so £3 in total meaning you have been refunded exactly what you paid but you also get to keep the overpriced pear!!!
Hope that made sense.0 -
I always think DTD is easiest explained with a £1 item :rotfl:
You buy an item marked as £1 you get charged £2.
The £1 difference is doubled so you get £2 refunded plus the original £1 item for FREEMSE- The Glitchhikers guide to the galaxy0 -
It does confuse you cos basically all I can see is that she got the £50 back she actually paid in the first place! Plus the dryer of course. So to my thick brain she didnt get double the difference. aaaargh.... I need to read more on these forums!0

I know, there are times when it makes perfect sense and there are times when even my brain gets confused. Even though I've walked away with items for free it still seem slike I'm being diddled but to walk away with a £25 hairdryer for free is pretty good. It's not often we find items that make a profit but there are some to be had e.g. the Panasonic phones.
Mad though it seems, between the Tesco/Asda DTD, glitches and normal in-store DTD, it's hard to actually pay full price for something. Mind you in the last few days I've had 5 DTDs, 2 of which I knew about in advance and the other 3 were all accidents. Each of these 5 DTDs were unique items so just goes to show how often we get overcharged without realising or doing anything about it.0 -
A while ago I wouldnt look at the receipts i got, only a glance, and i couldnt be bothered to find my clubcard when I filled up in the garage. Now it is different, and thanks to you all I am learning fast! I think that has finally sunk in, well slowly...not that fast was I!!!!0
