Hi I've been using AVG for years and never had to pay but now they keep sending me messages in the middle of my screen when I start computer up, saying I must pay £34 before 30th April or I won't be protected. Has anyone else had this message and do I have to pay or is there another just as good free alternative? Many thanks.

  • I've had these as well in the past - they're a bit sneaky, they take you into a site for the full retail version. That's a fuller product at £34 + VAT, with a firewall etc. AVG free is still OK!

You have not said which version you are currently using but you can download the latest free version here.

Can I download Avast without taking off the AVG first as I don't want to be unprotected while I change over?

    yes download it,
    then disconnect from the internet,
    uninstall avg and
    install avast
    reconnect to the internet

Why don't you stick with what you know and simply download the latest AVG version?

Go to Control Panel/ Network Connections, right-click local area connection and choose disable.
