Hi i have just installed Windows XP home edition and IE8 on a new PC now i have a few questions to ask you guys but beware i am not techie minded so i will maybe say things or call things by the wrong names.
Now the first of 3 questions is
1, the box at the top of the page where i type the addresses in to. eg:- http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/newthread.html?do=newthread&f=29 looks like this only some of the words appear visible. it was not like that on the older PC i had with a different IE 6 or 7 i think.
2,When i click on an item to open the page it takes an age to open it even though its a new PC with 4gig of RAM and a huge HDD. that is from day one so no viruses checked that one.
3,when i select remember me on say for eg facebook or Hotmail it forgets me.
Are these normal things, any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks people for looking

IE8 has a lot of problems inherant with it. Youd be better (If possible) reverting back to IE7
Or use firefox or chrome:idea:0 -
Three threads today about IE 8 not working properly. We normally don't se that many problems with the one product in one day (apart from Windows itself of course).0

The only reason I use IE7 at ALL is when the other browsers fail me on certain websites (VERY rare to be honest)
IE8 seems even less compatible so ive no desire whatsoever of installing it:idea:0 -
If you change the user agent in Firefox, it sometimes sorts out compatibility problems.0

Cheers mate:idea:0

So it is IE8 then. Great! thanks people I will try to find IE7 somewhere will i have to uninstall IE8 or can i install IE7 over the top of it? :TThe solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

You might have problems with that actually as USUALLY youd uninstall IE8 to revert back to IE7. I doubt you can install IE7 over the top and I doubt you can uninstall IE8 (although it may do if it will revert back to IE6):idea:0

That's how it is. It does that to bring to your attention what domain you are on, so you don't have to decipher a lot of the URL should you have a rather long and complex entry in the address bar.2,When i click on an item to open the page it takes an age to open it even though its a new PC with 4gig of RAM and a huge HDD. that is from day one so no viruses checked that one.
What Virus and Spyware software do you have installed? Do you have any kind of link checking enabled on both, because I've not experienced any delay in opening pages at all.3,when i select remember me on say for eg facebook or Hotmail it forgets me.
What Privacy setting are you using in Internet Options, and you're not browing InPrivate mode are you?0 -
Well, I must be unusual because I'm running IE8 and I have no problems at all. In my opinion it is much more stable than IE7. I had all sorts oif problems with IE7 (which was why I upgraded), mainly I think to do with addons (I think Adobe was the main culprit). Since I upgraded I've had no problems at all.
I have it running on my wife's laptop with Vista, and I have it on my desktop with Windows 7 beta, which considering it's a beta version is excellent.0 -
Have you tried the "compatability view" settings in IE8. This should do everything 7 does
its in
Tools --> compatability view settings.
You can let it allow some pages you might have problems with or set it for all pages0
