Problem with Ford Fiesta door lock

Hi, I am having trouble with the lock on the drivers side. When I put the key in I can lock it fine, but when i try to lock it most of the times I can't. I can turn the key to the left (to open) but it will not go all the way. Most of the time I have to open the passanger door which opens easily and then open the driver door from the inside which isn't exactly convenient.
I have tried two different keys so i Know it is a problem with the lock. Anybody have any idea what is wrong with it and how much it will cost to fix it?

I have no clue about cars so wouldn't be able to fix this myself!

What year is the fiesta? I would ask an automotive lock specialist. When I had this problem on a lock it soon stopped unlocking. I just left it as it is and installed remote central locking.

Yep, tried that inside the lock and on the part of the door. Did not work unfortunately.

its a common problem it happened on my fiesta, it cost me iirc about £30 to have the lock rebuilt at a local locksmiths but that included a replacement key as mine was worn,
if your mechanically minded you could swap over all the locks for a set from a scrappy for about £20 and put your red chip in the key from the scrappy

a very common problem caused by the mechanism at the back of the lock inside the door. take off door card inspect with torch anything loos re-tighten, many people have the lock removed/rebuilt and this has cured the problem i had a fiesta noticed slight tapping in the door onday and the locks wouldnt unlock tightened all back up behind lock was fine after.

I had a similar problem with the ignition barrel. Do not go to Ford, they will charge you a lot of money.

The barrel of the lock is worn. The round Ford keys do that, they are pretty useless. If you send a key to these people they will rebuild a door lock for you pretty cheap.

You can try to fit it yourself, or find a mechanic friend to do it

Yes its a commen ford tibbe lock problem, as your car is a 96 i'm sure you dont want to spend a lot on it with new locks, I would see if you can get a single door lock from the scrap yard with a key then just have 2 keys for the car. One to get in one to start it.

About a tenner, possibly 15, for a new lock kit from Ford. (that's for the ignition - the door & fuel cap ones are about the same)

The labour to build it up might be expensive though - but you you can do it yourself. No instructions provided but you can find them on the web :)

Edit: You'll need a pair of circlip pliers if you plan to build one up yourself!

    Edit 2: Instructions here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockbld.htm
