If you credit the garage with some sense, think how about no air filter box, not just no paper air filter?
OP - Honda prices may not be as bad as you think for parts. And also good pattern parts available - ADL Blueprint etc.
Edit - what age is this Honda?? And Model??Genie

Maybe it was just an advise that there was not one there before they fitted it ???It's not just about the money0 -
Update:
I phoned the garage and enquired about the air filter. There is one fitted and mechanic didn't need to replace it. The way it is written on the invoice implies there isn't one! Also booked the car in to have new rear and front brake pads fitted, so you can breathe a sigh of relief I'm not going to get those second hand, lol.0 -

i've always found the online scrap yards to be much too expensive. they tend to abuse your desperation for a car part, and they charge for the labour cost of removing the part and for the shipping. the local yards are always cheaper, so long as you don't mind getting a bit dirty and doing it yourself. they are under reclamation or salvage in the yellow pages (yell.com) what component do you require? often it can be false economy to replace with used.0 -
if your air con doesnt work i suggest a re gas at a local garage
any of the big nationals doing a special offer re-gassing yet? last year i think it was national or was it kwik-fit offering it for £35, with a guarantee that if the cabin temperature doesn't drop by 'n' degrees, you get your money back..
i guess they do the temperature test immediately after they've re-gassed and long before the refrigerant has all hissed out of a leaky o-ring!0 -
My air con needs re-gassing. Can a mechanic do this or is it a specialist thing? That did cross my mind that the breakers yard will think I am desperate and up the price. I haven't heard back from them but will be getting brand new brake pads from my local garage.I do know if you get the parts from salvage my garage said they would fit those parts. (Being female I really don't know much about fixing cars lol!)0

This is one of the few good things I've heard about Kwik Fit.
It's £45 ish.
If they don't lower your temperature by 10%, they don't charge. But as 10% of 5 degrees in a working system is half a degree you usually have to pay. However it's an automatic machine, which takes an hour, and if the machine detects a fault it stops, and as the temperature hasn't been lowered, they really don't charge you.0 -

Why
You still have 35% left, waste of money !0 -
My OH thinks it's dangerous now they are worn at 65%. (Like me he knows little about cars, lol) The mechanic said that the brake pads would need changing in a couple of months anyway. How far do they have to go before they need changing?0
