Invoice for MOT and full service

I've just had my Honda MOTed and serviced and didn't bother to read the invoice until I had left the garage. My car had passed the MOT but on the invoice it says that the front and rear brake pads are 65% worn. I've not noticed any problems with the brakes and just wondered if they are as worn down as that do they need changing? Also it states that there is no air filter! I've had this car 3 years, how did that go unnoticed by previous mechanics?

What sort of price should I expect to pay for labour and parts? Thanks in advance.

    genuine honda parts = expensive

motorfactor "copy" parts are cheaper, depending on the model and engine size you can be looking at varying prices, im guessing at about £140-£160 inc an air filter

air filter can be any thing from £5er

Get a filter in it asap. Dont worry about the brakes just yet. MoT is not a substitute for proper servicing. It is merely an assessment of testable items. If the brakes exerted sufficient braking force even though they were 95% worn, they'd still pass.

the air filter cleans out all the crap from the air as the car sucks in air for the car to run

breakers yards???? you want new if your replacing

Thanks guys. I had the car serviced at the same time Pssst and they didn't list what they'd actually done. I thought that changing air filter (obviously I don't have one) was part of a full service? I always have a full service every year.

Mcjordi my air con has always been poor since I bought the car. I guess this explains why! I'm not sure it is necessary to buy brand new if a breaker's yard has the parts.

No air filter? Why did they note it and not replace it? Its not as if it is an expensive item - around £10 to £15?? Go to a breakers for that?? Why?!

And why did you not read the invoice? Sorry to sound like a nag - but any decent garage would've gone through it with you pointing out any potential problems. Or you could just ask them. Why don't you go back to them and ask them? They know the car now and would be the best people to ask these questions to surely?

Re brakes - 65% worn means just that. Depending on your annual mileage would depend on when they need replacing.

This is a new garage I've just gone to so wasn't sure of what they were like. I didn't read the invoice as I was discussing a different problem I had asked them to look at and I just thought the invoice was a run down of parts replaced. I mention the breakers yard as I don't want to pay Honda prices.

Just to add: I was surprised they mentioned there is no air filter and didn't bring it to my attention or replace it! I'm going to phone them tomorrow to find out about this!

If you credit the garage with some sense, think how about no air filter box, not just no paper air filter?
