Cool. Note edit out the second part, ie starting from the "PPP adapter bulldog", for security. It's not info we need.
Could you do the same on the other machine and post the results. That details for the computer above look fine.
Actually if this machine is the host, or will be used to share an internet connection, you don't need to set the "default gateway"."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Are they both running XP? If so then there may be a security issue stopping you from sharing the files.
Make sure that you have a user account with exactly the same username and password on both machines. So eventually you will probably want to setup all the accounts on one machine on the other and vice-versa. That overcomes the security issue.
It is possible without a router/switch/hub but having a router simplifies the process. All a switch or hub does is links computers together so they wouldn't help unless you have more than 2 to connect.silverfoxdude wrote:Do I need a router/switch/hub, as some tutorials are saying I do. This is explained in a post I made a while ago, here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1226826&postcount=6tigermatt wrote:Are they both running XP? If so then there may be a security issue stopping you from sharing the files.

Hope that helps

It should be Enabled. See Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP.silverfoxdude wrote:NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled
It's called Wonderwall there.silverfoxdude wrote:The other computer which we've named guest says

Once you've enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP on both computers, enter the following command:
net view
It should show both computer names if they are both in the same workgroup and you should also see both computers in My Network Places.
tigermatt - if the Share files and printers option was selected in Network Wizard I don't think it's necessary to create identical user accounts, since the computers will be using the Guest account to share files. See How to configure file sharing in Windows XP.0 -
Morning, I've set up a new user account exactly the same on both pc's. I've pinged and got replies.. I cant see the other pc??? gggrrrr this is so annoying
Just wondered about 'map the drive' someone said earlier?0 -
When you say "see", what or how do you mean? Via My Network Places (ie the Workgroup)?
The best way to get onto another PC, is (as someone mentioned earlier) open up Windows Explorer, and in the address bar at the top type "\\computerName" or if that desn't work, "\\computerIpAddress".
See what happens. You may get an error message saying either the computer cannot be found, or you do not having permissions to access it. Or you may get on to it no problems."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Oh gosh!! Got an error message saying not found! Wish I knew someone to come and do it!!!!!!!!!0
