Wanna go away + do something out of the ordinary for 2 weeks in May/June-suggestions?

Hello!
I have the nagging urge to get away, escape from the rat race and have an adventure for a couple of weeks. After a tough couple of years of going through a marriage breakdown, having to sell my jointly owned house, ill parents and a cancer scare I feel its time to treat myself, take some time out and do something for me!! Have realised life is too short!
I really like the idea of doing something like trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu, but have found out that I probably wont be able to get a permit at such short notice.
I am 27, female, and a sole (not very experienced) traveller, with a budget of around £2000. I can travel from next week, but need to be back in the UK between 17th May-6th June due to existing commitments. So need to depart asap or after the 6th June.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks!
Lea

Are you serious? With all that stuff going on there right now? I wouldn't go there!

Get yourself a flight into Jogya or Solo (Malaysian or Singapore Airlines) and out of Bali or Lombok.
Spend time in Java, climb volcanoes, visit amazing temples, travel to Bali for some more culture, and finish in Lombok for some beaches and snorkelling (unless you want to climb the amazing volcano Rinjani).
Perfect weather, will be in budget, plenty safe for single female traveller, and you can treat yourself to some luxury when you feel like it.
That's what i'd do anyway! (But I love Indonesia!).0 -
The website below has lots of volunteering projects abroad.

Not used them myself (but plan to!) - I was sent link by my aunt who works in a uni and they recommend this company to their students.

I saw a deal for 3 nights in Kuala Lumpar and 7 nights in Bali. You could do all of the above posters suggestions then

Being a fan of the ol' US of A, I'd say do a road trip...maybe route 66 or something? If you're not an experienced traveler then you're absolutely fine, but it's still good fun.
Gambia could also be a good destination...Banjul has a lot going for it, but will be starting to get quite warm there at the moment! Still, lovely, vibrant place
