My Evans Halshaw Nightmare

  • I recently purchased a mondeo from evans halshaw in Stoke on trent and have been having engine problems from day one! Took it back to my local dealership (which is 45 minutes away), to be told there was a problem with a fuel injector. They reluctantly replaced it as the car was still covered by the 3 month warranty, and I though it was problem solved. But I started happening again and the car started cutting out, even when driving 80 mph down the motorway! As I had my 18 month old daughter in the back I wasn't very happy!! This started happening more often and has now ended up with my car totally breaking down! Angry is an understatement! As I've gone past the three month warranty (I've had it 4 months), does anybody know if I'm totally screwed? Or if I kick up a fuss will they do something about it??

Telling everyone you've been breaking the speed limit with your 18 month old daughter in the back won't win friends or influence people....

Sale of goods act. Less than six months since purchased.

Don't get angry. The previous owner of the vehicle got rid of it for a reason. The dealer almost certainly purchased it by auction along with a thousand other vehicles, and had no information or history or knowledge of that vehicle or its problems. They will have carried out any obvious repairs they needed to at the time, but have not set out to ruin your day.

It sounds like they helped you out last time - fingers crossed they'll be able to do so again, and either way you'll let us know the outcome.

edit- now a six year old thread. Well done people!

Resurrecting an old thread does show a pattern. If I was buying a secondhand car and came here searching for a mention of the company I was thinking of buying from, it would show that there's a longstanding pattern of very poor CS, not just a one-off poor experience.

    So actually quite useful.
  • I have recently bought a beautiful C4 from Evans Halshaw... and what a farse it was at that.

Me and my husband initially highlighted some issues that we would like to be ironed out in order to purchase the car: scratches to be patched over, broken window seals to be replaced/repaired and the whole car valletted, as it stank of dirty dog, there was mould on the seats and on the seat belt and the seats were visibly grimey. These issues were agreed to be addressed with the sales rep and we were assured that they would be actioned in time for us picking the car up 4 days later. A customer commitment form was completed.

Then on the day of picking the car up, the rep contacted us to ask if we wanted to wait for the seals to be ordered and pick the car up another day, or take it away on the day arranged and bring it back. We were informed that the scratches and valetting had been completed. Upon picking the car up later that day it was clearly evident that the work had not been completed. We have had to make an issue about the work being done constantly and are having to chase them all of the time. We have spotted mould still in all the places highlighted have been assured on separate occasions and by the manager and the rep that these would be addressed.... three times now. :o

I have been passed from the service team to the sales rep to the manager and then back again, and both me and my husband have been back to the dealership several times, even intersected by the manager when he saw us coming. All we want is the car to be in the condition that the rep agreed to. My husband has cleaned the car since and it didn't take a lot and looks a lot better.... so why couldn't their so called 'valetter' do this?

Like other people who are not happy with Evans Halshaw.... it's the lack of respect, honesty and aftersales that is disgusting and the principle that if they agree to do something then they should bloody well do it. The car itself is lovely and I hope it stays that way for a while, without any surprises..... although I can't plan any work that may need doing soon as THEY DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT THE SERVICE REPORT SAID.

We have been assured that the car has had a full service???...HMMMMMM!... I asked for a print out of this so that I know what kind of service or what parts of the car may need attention in the near future..... they wouldn't do that.

If I go into a shop and buy something, it says what it is on the side; the ingredients, if it contains nuts... everything. So why cant they be transparent with such a potentially deadly peace of machinery. They have assured me that their cars do not leave there show room without being safe... but they lie about other things so what kind of characters are they?

Most people work hard and aren't rich and a car is a big investment, taking up a big chunk of a persons finances... so please Evans Halshaw.... get your house in order, treat your STAFF and CUSTOMERS better, stop lying to people, stop the cloak and dagger malarchy and apply some moral values please. :)

We will be going elsewhere in the future and doing our own valletting.... shame though.... love the car and love citroens. If they can't be bothered to do the job properly, then they shouldn't do it at all!!!

    EH are crap, shock horror.....

Why do so few people seem to do any research before going to dealerships and spending large sums of money based on the word of sociopathic salesman types?

    And you still bought it?
  • yes I still bought it... I need a car for work and due to a car accident that was the reason for buying a new car, I couldn't be travelling around..... too much pain you see... the dealership is literally across the street. I could have gone elsewhere and also have been in agony finding another car.

time was of the essence as you might say;)

I also needed to get a car quickly so that I could get used to being in a car again without the fear of someone ploughing into me again, before I can return to work.

I still feel that views are very important to share and thank you to you who have.

The car IS lovely but I felt that it was important to share my bad experiences. You see, I was brought up in a world of decency where people say what they think not what they want you to think and how ever naïve this may seem... I know that i'm right.

In a fashion I agree... 'and I still bought it'... but we all have hindsight and choice when its not our decision to make...... thanks for opinions..... its good to know that people are
    sharing. :)
  • I should avoid EH then!

Please avoid this company not only are they bad at customer service but they are arrogant and rude. I paid £200 for a Toyota Auris Hybrid moved from Evans Halshaw Honda Bedford showroom to their Borehamwood Vauxhall. A week later (today) I travelled 1 hour to reach the dealership for the test drive. The sales person was rude and not interested in the sales. Apparently they only get £400 for the sale as this car was not from their dealership which explains why he was not interested in the sale. He could not answer many questions constantly kept going to his manager's office and took long time to come back. Once all the staff memebrs were in the manager's office chatting and having ice cream and not attending us. He was rude, arrogant and taking me for a fool. My wife also was very upset with his attitude so we left.

I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP

You paid £200 for them to move a car you hadn't seen?

    Did you get this back?

I'll bring my car round to have a look at for a hundred.
