It depends on what you are moving for, I think you can only claim when you are actually posted, what do you mean moving up the road, is it because you want a bigger house - if so don't think you are able to claim disturbance.0

hi, we are moving on my husbands new appointment within the regiment.0

When you say moving 'just up the road' are you actually moving RAF Stations? Or literally 'just up the road' on the same MQ patch.0
-
hi, the quater is on the same patch we are entitled to DA just want to know the lower rates.
many thanks0 -
I cant really advise as I dont know the reasons for moving house on the same patch? Why? Are you pregnant and entitled to more bedrooms? Is the old house unfit for habitation? Etc...
There are no 'lower rates'. The amount of DA payable depends on the type of property you are moving into and how many kids you have got.
Just because he has a new job in the same camp dosent mean you have to move house. (Unless he is promoted to Wg Cdr and moving to an execs qtr!)
Is there a valid reason, if there is then you will be entitled to the SFA rate of DA of £1048 and £138 for each child. However, that is only if there is a valid reason for the move.0 -
Basically where we live now is for all ranks and we have neighbours from hell. We are moving to a house that comes with the position of my husbands new job. We have already been inform we are to get removals and DA, I Just would like to know the amounts and I have also heard that if the move is under 50 miles DA is taxable. The welfare are positive there is a lower rate but i cant find it.0

I think it would be better if your husband spoke to the admin staff rather than the welfare staff as they know the current regulations. As an RAF admin clk myself, I can tell you that DA is calculated to cover this:-
The following expenditure is included in the DA Rate calculation:
a. Provision of/alteration to curtains.
b. Additional furnishing costs.
c. Loss of subscriptions (eg Gymnasium).
d. Costs associated with the preparation of current accommodation for march out/sale/letting (eg cost of paint for making good, commercial cleaning, window cleaning, dry cleaning, laundry).
e. Bulk clearing of garden/household rubbish.
f. Loss of food (opened packets/non transportable).
g. Satellite/cable reconnection/installation.
h. Cost of moving and installing new TV aerials.
i. Mail redirection.
j. Telephone reconnection/installation.
k. Extra cost of postage/telephone calls.
l. Insurance of goods in transit.
m. Meals out due to cleaning of residence.
n. Plumbing-in of domestic appliances.
o. Alterations to electrical fittings (eg plug/voltage changes on assignment to/from overseas).
p. Loss of purchased guarantee or extended warranties (when assigned outside mainland UK).
You will incur almost all of these expenses, even if you are only moving in the same street. The reason you cant find the 'lower' rates is because they dont exist. You are entitled to claim 30 days before the move, and it will be paid via the monthly salary. If you have kids you wont get child element as they are not moving school and this is designed to cover the costs of new uniform etc.
There is no difference in tax if the move is more than or less than 50 miles. At least it does not mention that in the JSP. Hope this helps you.

My husband is recieving his DA for a move 200 miles. Raf Leeming to Raf Marham (the joys!!). He applied for it thinking it would be paid as an extra and its is not. It gets paid at the end of the month with his salary.0

We had a tour a few years back where they sold off a load on quarters, and moved everyone into the Officers' patch which was a few hundred yards over the road.
We were entitled to half the normal disturbance rates (which was £400 odd at the time), although you obviously won't get the allowance for school uniforms etc.
The important thing to note is that we HAD to move and didn't ask to move.
Hope this helps.John
