Can you haggle with o2 for an iphone?

I’m looking into getting an iphone and was wondering if you can haggle with o2 as you can with other networks for other phones. I would like to get some free insurance or the cost of the phone waved.

I will phone up and give it a try but just wanted to see if anyone has done this already.

Not as a rule, there's no where else you can get an iPhone so you have no leverage with them.

Surly the leverage is that you wouldn’t buy a phone with them?

At the rate iphone are selling !
If you want one you have to go to O2, you have no choice, they have all the cards.
If you could get it from another network you could play one off against the other...

Are you a new O2 customer or are you an existing customer inside your upgrade period?

You can buy an iphone from Play.com ( 1p under £600) or if you take the basic model on a 24 month contract with o2 the phone is free

I'm a new customer. Dont know if that's good or bad. I may look at getting a new contract with orange and then sell the phone and get one from play.com

As a general rule it puts you in a worse position than if you were a current customer. Unfortunately you just don't have a lot of leverage to haggle in this situation. You say that the leverage is that you wouldn't buy a phone with them, but if you want the iPhone it is painfully obvious, just as it is obvious that you can't go anywhere else to get it on contract. It is a premium and highly sought after product that O2 have a monopoloy on as things stand. That doesn't give you much room for maneouvre. If you want one, you will almost invariably have to pay market price or close to it to get it.
