Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.
Like jaffa said you may want to try using the Compatibility View feature. It is a broken page icon located next to the refresh button on the toolbar. Clicking the icon may help resolve your issues.
    I hope this helps!

Do you not think it would have been wise to release a browser that works straight outta the box?

If only it were that simple, you might as well ask someone to make a 100% reliable spam filter or ask everyone on the planet to speak esperanto; it aint going to happen anytime soon.

The web is a mess of de jeur and defacto standards and competing technologies, most people probably dont realise this but a lot of sites build seperate pages and css files for each browser they wish to support, so you get served a page that works correctly.

Theres basicly just too much stuff out there to make a one-size fits all browser / website. and this is all before problems such are varying comp specifications/setups and malicious code...

A lot of issues people are bringing to light with IE8 could be solved by simply reading up on the new features and how they make an impact on the browsing experience. That's the same for most things though. RTFM as the old addage goes..

    Firefox works 'as is'
    Chrome works 'as is'
    Opera works 'as is'
IE8 'sometimes' works after f*cking about............

Call me cynical but id expect microsoft to try being at the top of the game, not at the bottom. MOST people who are going to struggle with this are those that know nothing about computers and so resolutely stick to microsoft products. But to get the net working theyre 'expected' to change settings to suite? Hows my 80yr old grandfather REALLY supposed to know what to change to?

Simply it boils down to "if a page doesn't look right, click the broken page button" which shouldn't be a hard concept for anyone to grasp. I'm guessing a lot of people could have benefited from the dialogues after installation that would have guided people through the new features, but they always get dismissed and later down the line the finger pointing starts. There's always the Help menu too, that will take you to the raft of information on the IE website with tutorials and explanations. There's a certain onus on the end user to familiarise themselves with the software they're using, no matter what that software is.
