  • if you are on a water meter and have really bad skin needing a lot of changes of clothes etc I think your water rate can be capped so you dont pay more than an average household..I am sorry I cant tell you more as i left over 6 years ago and think that few people would benefit from this ...it worth a try to ask as the polcy might have been extended to other conditions

    many thanks pookienoodle :)
im lucky as mine is under control, just feel for those that suffer with it bad, as ive walked a mile in those shoes, not only is it just the discomfort of having eczema but people dont think of the stress that it causes too, i will always remember when it was really bad on my hands a shopkeeper didnt want to take my money off me and wouldnt drop the change into my hands, and i was asked at the school if i had infantigo,i was horrified and felt i should of had a lepper bell with me..:)

My younger brother used to get DLA for his eczema at I believe it was the middle rate a few years ago. His was what his consultant described as "the worst case of childhood eczema I've seen in my career" and he spent a lot of time in and out of hospital to give my mum a break, and head to toe in bandages, with so many different creams the bathroom shelf had a dip in the middle from the weight, he'd scratched so hard he had no eyebrows left and ended up having a spell on the immunosuppresant drugs they give to transplant patients to give his body and skin some time to recover from it.

No one ever told my mum she could claim until she met a lady in the park who, rather than staring at my brother like lots of people did, just asked whether it was eczema he had and mentioned the chance that she might be able to claim. What we had to focus on was the additional costs incurred - things like needing cotton clothing wherever possible, extra baths because of needing to put emollient into the water every day, additional laundry and needing certain soap powders etc - things like that.

He got a lot better and when they reassessed his claim he dropped down to the bottom rate of DLA and now I don't think he gets anything at all as a 21 year old though - but his skin's improved a LOT with age (shame his dress sense didn't!).

Emweaver - check that you're not becoming allergic to the emollient (moisturizing) cream you're using - I know my brother went through aqueous and E45, developing reactions to both over time to a point where they stinged him so badly he'd scream blue murder and now uses Diprobase which he gets in massive pump action tubs - or check things haven't got infected - his used to get infected as well which meant we had to add nice bright yellow cream into the equation and it didn't half stain all yer clothes if you got it on them!

No I havent. I will try it later but Ive not got eczema anywhere else so could put anything else on my skin other than hands and nothing irritates it. Everything makes my hands burn especially peeling potatoes! Leaves me feeling like theyre on fire

Ive not had anyone act like this to me but I do feel embarassed when I pay for things because of my hands. Ive not got bad white / flaky skin its just lightly white and flaky but badly chapped with red spots particularly around my wrists. In between my fingers are red and itch like crazy. Someone thought I had scabies once!

aqueous cream works wonders when they're irriated really soothes the burning but doesnt last for long and doesnt help clear it up
