Tiscali ain't great ne more

I thought I'd share this....

I joined Tiscali when I moved into my house last year, rented, and as stated on here... the best in the market!

For £30 connection and £10 a month (1st 3 months) I got unlimited 8mb BB and free weekend calls with free line reconnection to the house. This all included the line rental and BB fee for £10! - then to £14 after intro period - still a bargain!

I called them yesterday to say I was moving house, can I cancel it here and move to my new property. I would have thought an easy migration and maybe connection fee would be it.

They said to me, as of last month, due to the financial strain on the company, they have stopped activating new lines and have kept prices the same.

In order to become a new customer or existing customer moving house, you now need a BT line (£11 a month) to take on the tiscali service, which is a further £10 (new) or £14 for existing customers - making it £25 a month for a service I was previously getting at £14 with no difference.

I'm not happy, but is this a breach of my original contract with them on their behalf? I know I am tied in til November on a 12mth contract at this address... of which I leave in 2 weeks.

I just wanted to update the fact that tiscali isn't the shining star as it was previously on these forums.

    When was that?

    Certainly before my time here!

I must admit I was surprised as well as I had tended only to see negative things about their CS

'the best in the market!' :rotfl:

    'shining star' :rotfl:

Don't know where those came from, one of the ISP's with the worst reputations.
  • It would be nice if people actually posted you an answer to your thread rather than just posting smilies to it...hardly helpful...!
Anyway is it a "breach of contract" in that they cannot re-connect you to your new property... well that's a difficult one
by moving house you are asking them to stop providing service at your current address, to which they had origianlly agreed to for 12 months
and move this somewhere else, that (as you have experieneced) is out of their control and could be deemed as a renogotiation of your contract because they now have to sort out all sorts of bits of pieces to make sure they can do that. Tiscali will not own any of the network they plug into, that's BT wholesale, unless it's unbundled where you are moving too/ from? and even that's not straight forward for them. Afraid you will have to read through their very ropey T&C's on this (I've done this for myself about 3 months ago and they are well dodgy - bordering on unfair contract!) to try and gleam some light on this...I would not bother ringing the customer services that will not have a clue (seriously). They could argue it's not their fault you decided to move and therefore cannot/ will not renogotiate...good luck...and apolgise for any spelling errors.

  • Thanks,

Ill have a goose thru it to see if i can find anything that let's me in. I've spoken to a few people who deemed it breach of contract as it will cost me almost double what I am paying now...

as for the quotes before you, it was through reading forums on here, the weekly mail out and the fact the line rental was included was why I went with tiscali. It's been fine, no probs (touch wood) so far and this is the first glitch.

Hopefully I can get it sorted, but I was told to cancel the line we have 24hrs before the move out - then call them at new address when we've installed a BT line!?! but that's £125 fee and £11 a month before I even consider it....

If the only alternative is to have a BT line, I'm thinking of 02 bb as Im a contract customer - so i'd get that better deal right? - and it'd cost about £20 a month as opposed to £30 - but still gone up from £14!

Nice to see current financial situations are being dealt with well by all companies involved anyway :)

    cheers for the advice!

I see you can get a BT line installed for free at present

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-BT-line-installation

And the cheapest o2 broadband deal is less than £8 a month if you have an o2 SIM, or contract or PAYG mobile.

i posted this couple of days ago as i am going thorugh same problem
  • Thanks

I've had a read thru, 12.4.1 seems a good clause to question them over, as they will not be providing me with their service. I've got to do all the groundwork for it!

Their attraction to us at first was the all in one service, line, number and BB - now it's none. They we're happy to help us in setting up our line, now they're not interested!

    Great
