Marks and Spencers
4 x Aberdeen Angus burgers [strike]£3.99[/strike] £2
Turkey roast thing [strike]£6.99[/strike] £3 :j It is turkey for roasting and has stuffing and bacon on top. Looks yummy! It's in the freezer for now.
Bread £1 (Reduced, not sure of original price!)
Morrisons
Milk £1.53
Gammon joint [strike]£6.97[/strike] £1.75 :j
Stuffed pork belly [strike]£5.71[/strike] £0.99!!
Burger buns [strike]62p[/strike] 49p
Bacon £2.99 (2 packs as on BOGOF)
Boots
2 x bottles Coke as I forgot to buy them in Morrisons! £1.60
I am having the burgers tonight for dinner and tomorrow I am going to put the gammon joint in the slow cooker with some cola (Has anyone ever done this before?) as I have heard it's very tasty. I then plan to have the leftover ham on sandwiches through the week for work and perhaps experiment with pea and ham soup.
Total spend today = £15.35
Total savings = £16.05 + whatever I saved on bread
My freezer is now packed to the point of no return - all that time I spent playing Tetris as a child was well-spent :rotfl:0 -

I've been out most of today at a Craft Fair - and as it was much closer to Mr A than home is I nipped in there on the way.
Picked up 4 boxes of the Chocolate Cornflakes at 2 for £2 as this is only place that seems to do this cereal, and it's the only one my son is currently eating. Plus my GDs also like it after school - though they're about to get it restricted to a couple of days a week after a chat with DD
Also spotted the pasta at 2x3kg bags for £3 - so I picked up a couple of those which means I now probably have enough pasta for at least the rest of this year......
Also picked up a banana (12p) to have with the butties and crips I'd packed for my lunch - but it came home with me, so I'm about to eat it now :rolleyes2Cheryl0 -
My spend this month is up to around £130-need to find a couple receipts to add to my spreadsheet for exact amount. Still have loads in the freezer and larder and will just need milk, fruit and bread until next week. Managed to get half price eggs yesterday as best before is 21/05. Got two boxes as I'll do some extra baking so we won't need as much bread. My parents also picked me up some flour from Aldi as its cheaper there. So, today made tea bread for the first time. I read loads of recipes and then just did it off the top of my head with the things I had in, so its got apricots, glace cherries, mixed peel and sultanas in. Its yummy, had a slice with my lunch and very filling. Will make some scones as well and maybe a sponge.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

Really tiny grocery spend this weekend as I'm away from home this weekend so milk, fruit, jellies for lunches (I know making a big one up into little tubs would probably be cheaper) and a micro meal as I have no cooking facilities here. Signature updated.0

Evening all
Had no spends since wednesday :jonly 8 days to go this month ....I really shouldn't need much this week but some more fruit and possibly a bit of salad stuff ..the supermarket leaflets came this morning -I love to have a rummage for any possible "must haves" ... I found one or two... mainly apples -I get through fruit like its going out of fashion and have been paying €1.59 for 2kg apples -which I have to confess I can demolish in a couple of days-and this week I can get a 5kg box of jonnagold red for €2.99 -saving me about €1 ... but it all adds up.. I may well grab 2 boxes and stick on in the basement for whe I run out
.. wish they would get back to selling orange in buckets again
Today we have had.. jacket potatoes with cottage cheese and salad for lunch and then for dinner I made special fried rice to use up the last 2 eggs that needed using and some of the chorizo and salamis in the fridge(I buy big ones that last an age) and plenty of veggies... the special fried rice is becoming a firm favourite
Just need to make hubbies sandwiches for work tomorrow ..nice fresh bread made today mmmmm
The veggies are coming on nicely outside -flowers on 2 courgettes and a cumber -and today I have spotted the first tomato flowers :Tand every time I pop into the garden -more beans n peas are breaking through the compost:j
right enough waffle -hope everyone is doing well and has had a good weekend-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Haven’t spent anything over the weekend. I had tried to make sure I would have enough in anyway & the weather has been really grotty, so haven’t been out.
Still planning ahead, it does seem to be the planning that makes the most difference in keeping the cost down. And we are nearly done for May.
We are off to Oz on 1 Aug for 3 weeks. Currently there are still 50 meal portions cooked up in the freezers plus approximately 8kg of meat & fish – there are only 2 of us! :rolleyes:So I reckon there is enough in for our main meals until we go away.
DD will be going to her Dad’s next weekend & staying for the week for half term. So I will do a bit more batch cooking on bank holiday Monday to shore up the stocks. And then work through the supplies until we are off.
Hopefully that will keep the spends down over the next couple of months. But costing out the main shop for June it is already over £60 just for basics & non-food, and will still need milk & fruit etc. over the month. :eek:0 -
Well normally i get free eggs but it fell through this week so i had to PAY for them :eek: so that's 1.89 gone, but never mind ey.
Anyway i made a recipe out of a book for dinner, that i havent tried before. It sounded utterly vile but i had the ingredients so tried it anyway and it was actually pretty good :rotfl:and it's super cheap so i thought i'd share.
Simmer some celery till tender (could prob use other veg though)
Fry a chopped onion
stir in some flour, tbsp tomato puree, and the leftover celery water
Add lemon juice, rind, cumin, pinch of chili, tsp stock, black pepper, he celery, and some chopped cashews, warm through...serve over potatoesAugust grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0
