I think it depends on the type of file in question, and whether or not you have an application installed to handle it.
Holding down an image in Safari for instance, will bring up a menu to save it, and it will be placed in Photos.0 -
Having used a netbook and an iPod Touch, it's an easy decision for me - go for the netbook. The iPod Touch screen is just a bit too small for me and I find myself zooming in and out a lot, whereas the netbook (8.9" screen) is just that bit easier to use.0

The iPod isn't a fully functional browser and doesn't support flash which is used by loads of sites like the BBC. Surfing the internet on an itouch / iphone is pretty frustrating - it doesn't have a keyboard and takes about 30 seconds to type in the URL on the tiny screen.0
