Wireless Broadband keeps cutting out - Ideas?

I currently have wireless running off two computers from Sky. At least once an evening, the connection drops completely, and I have to manually reboot the router and also unplug the adapters from each computer.
I have tried also connecting this with a cable, but no joy. From this, I'm assuming it's a fault with the router or the connection itself. Any rough ideas on how I can get around this, other than dealing with their crappy call centre in the Phillipines?

What router? The DG834 line? If you head over to Skyuser.co.uk you can find out how to access the router stats, sync speed and attenuation etc. If you post those here we'll be better informed to tell you what the problem is.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Does the Sky router have ethernet ports? if so i would try and plug into this for a while. This will then show if its the wireless that is dropping, the whole connection that is dropping or maybe your router is restarting..0

I've found that microwave ovens and wireless telephones can interfere with wireless broadband and cause it to cut off frequently. Also, if one of your neighbours is using wireless on the same 'channel' you are, then this could also explain it.
If you are comfortable logging into the router, try changing the 'channel' it transmits on for wireless (I believe it goes from channel 1 -13).
If you use a different channel, you may no longer get interference.0 -

Yeah this use to happen to me everytime I turned on the microwave, my broadband would freeze, I just ended up biting the bullet and picking up a long LAN wire.0 -
If you call Sky they'll troubleshoot it as an intermittent connection and look at the connecton and router as an issue if it's happening with the internet cable as well as wireless.
More likely to be the connection TBH especially if the internet light is going amber or going off. I presume you've already changed the microfilter. If not do so before you call.
Best chance to avoid off-shore in technical support is to call early evening Sky have plenty of UK based technical support agents. (I should know I'm one of them)
If it's happening on the ethernet connection as well as wireless it's probably a bit pointless changing channel as it isn't addressing the root cause but it's definitely something to try for a wireless only problem (channel 11 or 1 for choice)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Your have just reduced your technical support credibility to zero with a comment like that! How can any specific channel be recommended without actually knowing which channels are in use locally?
The OP and the second poster need to establish if their exchange has Sky LLU presence, as this makes a big difference. Check here for Sky LLU. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Ok, thanks for the replies. I've used an ethernet cable tonight, and still had it drop out completely.
I use the old style DG834GT router, and wireless adapters supplied by sky (Netgear WG111T).
Stats:
Connection Speed: 7616 down 768 Up
Line Attenuation 36 down 24.5 up
Noisemargin 7.5 down 14 up
For info, the router is plugged in using an extension chord onto our landing, and connected in this way to the master socket. It's nowhere near the microwave we rarely use, and we do not have a wireless telephone.
Hope that is enough information, but if more is needed please let me know.0 -
Your stats look good. I would give Sky a call.0

Think I will do that, but probably at the weekend. Working 8 until 6 is a pain, and with the computers being upstairs and the phone down, I can't be running up and down waking people up.
Many thanks for the reply.0
