Huge Problem - people collecting item claimed to be bailiffs!!

Hello,

This is a very long story, so I shall keep it quick.

1, I sold a sofa on sofa on ebay for £50
2, the people called round to collect one night in the week, i wasn't in, so the wife suggested they re-arrange as they had turned up without confirming the collection time.
3, They turn up on Saturday evenign to collect, now, this is again without confirming a specific time or even if they were going to collect, as they didnt confirm i assumed they wouldnt be collecting it. This is despite me emailing and texting them several times.
4, Saturday evening i get a call from the neighbour saying there are people here claiming to be bailiffs and want your sofa!!!!!!!
5, They went round to the back of my house, they asked the local kids to have a look around, someone went into the shed
6, They were offering the local kids money to help them get the sofa
7, they told anyone who would listen that they were bailiffs

So i respond to the call by coming straight back home, i go off on the deep end, exchange some polite words and tell them to leave right away.....They say they have a contract with ebay, i didnt care i would rather have thrown the sofa away than sell it to someone like that.

They have now left me negative feedback, which i suppose i would have expected....

What can i do now, someone has suggested the police but i doubt they would be interested.

any advice anyone, the wife is deeply upset as people now think we are having the house re-possessed....

Can't do any harm to have a chat with your Neighbourhood Policing team and pass on the details, after all they were trespassing, seeking accomplices and casual about deception. Emphasis the involvement of the kiddies, that usually gets the bizzies interested.

You should also report them to ebay. tell them whats happened and let them know how serious the threat was.
This is a link to contact ebay: http://contact.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ContactUsNextGen

You need to report them...if you'd been a vulnerable person on your own...well..the consequences could have been very serious!

Imagine if they'd visited an elderly relative of yours that you'd helped out by selling their sofa on eBay!!!!

These people need to be stopped and fast.

    All the best!

Can you post their user name, so we can all add them to our blocked bidder list?

At least to your local police...sounds like they were trespassing too if they were going in your shed and other places they were not invited to.

They must have done this before...and you can bet your !!!!! they will do it again. We've got people like that around here too... scumbags. Although they've not tried that with eBay stuff. They'd just come in anyway!!!

    Good luck with it!

Have they paid for the sofa? Who went in the shed? If it was one of the 'purchasers' - and they had not paid for the sofa then think Police should be interested - fits definition of burglary - going into building without permission and intent to steal. If it was purely trespass then this is not a criminal offence. Worth telling local Officer though if purchasers are local.
