Thanks Heinz. I have been making chargeable calls as I was charged for caller display a few months back as I hadn't made any calls that I pay for. Since then I have made 2 calls per month. Is this is the T&C somewhere. I have been looking but struggling to find it.

I think BT company representative's post above (#21) is fairly conclusive.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Here's my experience.

I've just got charged for caller display for the first time. The £7.50 was described as a 'low use charge'.

Both online and phone support insisted I incurred the charge because you have to make six chargeable calls a quarter. Definitely not inclusive ones. What they couldn't explain was why I'd never been charged before, given that I'm pretty sure I've never made six chargeable calls since the 'unlimited' plans were born. Phone support man suggested I'd been lucky. Hmm.

Anyway, I worked it out for myself. I only made five calls in the billing period. Not six. Five INCLUSIVE calls I should say.

I found the 'inclusive wording' in BT's main terms and conditions and sent it on to online support man. He's gone quiet. It was the day the new job losses were announced, so perhaps he had other things on his mind.[if you log on to your bt account and cancel your caller display then scroll down and sign up for tps(read about it when youare there) you get the option to get caller display for freeSaving £7.50 per month]

    £2.50/month (£7.50/quarter).

I've got a BT land line, but my calls are routed via Orange, so I can't use 1280 to make my chargable BT calls. I was under the impression that by using a BT chargecard I'd avoid the "low use charges". However I've just received my latest bill and dispite having 8 calls via BT chargecard on the bill I've been charged for 1571 as I haven't made 6 calls.... Anyone else got experience of this?

    Hi BT Support,

Can you confirm that 1471-3 call return still counts towards
the 6 calls required to avoid the charges for Caller Display and
    1571?

    Many thanks

    Matt

    Hi littlemissmoney

I'm really sorry about your bill - just for clarity heres the full picture with free caller display as part of the BT Privacy at Home package:

"At least two calls per month on monthly billing or six calls per quarter must be made. Excludes calls to 0800 number ranges, 1471 and 1571. 1471 Call Return (press 3) is included. The calls are either chargeable or those that would be made as part of an inclusive calls package. Customers who make all their calls via BB Talk are not eligible for free Caller Display on their landline number".

If you have Caller display as a stand alone calling feature then it is charged at £2.50 a month/ £7.50 a quarter regardless how many calls you make - I can check your account if you wish, just PM me your telephone number and i will get back to you.

Sorry if you were expecting someone else to respond, but - why do you need confirmation? Has something happened to make you think this advice is not correct?
