Hi,
You can HiJackThis kill (unless you have some strange affection for Yahoo) and go to Add/Remove and remove it also if it's there:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie/...arch.yahoo.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\yt.dll
O2 - BHO: &Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\yt.dll
O2 - BHO: SingleInstance Class - {FDAD4DA1-61A2-4FD8-9C17-86F7AC245081} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\YTSingleInstan ce.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\yt.dll
If you are still worrying about resources you can still remove this with that link in my first post:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
Do you have a HP printer? If not kill this:
O23 - Service: Pml Driver HPZ12 - HP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe
That's about it. You have a very nice HiJackThis file now
For Vista readers mind you already have a rather good firewall installed so you don't need anything in this thread related to firewalls. And for people with very old systems I'd not recommend any software firewall if you have an ADSL or cable router as they have very good hardware firewalls usually. But always check. And BitDefender doesn't like Vista so try another antivirus like AVG http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/ or AVAST http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10825540.html?!!!!!lst-1 (both of those are also fine on XP).
Whatever you do you must have an antivirus application. Right click and scan anything you download.
How'd you get on with Facebook? Worth removing as much as possible from your Add/Remove if it's related to Toolbars. Almost all toolbars are spyware essentially as they scan/read pages and this can cause problems on many sites. If there's things you love about a particular toolbar then keep it, but one's more than enough.0
